Requested move 6 December 2022[edit]

The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

The result of the move request was: Not moved. There is no consensus for a move to Bono, and such a move would be inappropriate given that there is an article at Bono, and it is one of our most read. There is discussion regarding moving to Bono (footballer) - which is possible, though such discussion is unclear and inconclusive. If people feel that Bono (footballer) is more appropriate than Yassine Bounou, then a new move request can be opened. Yassine BounouBono – this is what he is known as and he's the most famous/notable person with this name. 109.150.128.9 (talk) 17:58, 6 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Support just because. Walrasiad (talk) 18:12, 6 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support He saved more penalties than the other Bono — Preceding unsigned comment added by 42.60.18.110 (talk) 02:54, 7 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment Difficult to view this as a good faith nomination with the claim that he's the most famous/notable person with the name Bono. However, it seems there may be good reason to move the article to Bono (footballer). S.A. Julio (talk) 18:51, 6 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
    • I disagree, most references on his page list his full name and not nickname.--Ortizesp (talk) 21:40, 6 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
      • A quick search shows "Bono" is used quite frequently ([1] [2] [3] [4] [5] [6] [7]), and he also wears it on his kit for Morocco and Sevilla. Not sure if it surpasses "Yassine Bounou", but "Bono" is more than just an alternative name. S.A. Julio (talk) 21:56, 6 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Sure, it's used, but not a lot more so than his full name, and not enough to justify the useage of a parenthetical because of NATURAL. Ortizesp (talk) 15:36, 7 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Note: This discussion has been included in WikiProject Football's list of association football-related page moves. S.A. Julio (talk) 18:51, 6 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support move to Bono (footballer), as per S.A. Julio. Sepguilherme (talk) 19:46, 6 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Support 100%. Also, pls return the mention "Emir of Spain". Synotia (talk) 19:53, 6 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Strong oppose per PRIMARYTOPIC and NATURAL, and also strong oppose move to Bono (footballer).--Ortizesp (talk) 20:53, 6 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support Bono (footballer). Clearly not more famous than the U2 singer, or Sonny Bono, or even lawyers working pro bono, but it's evident that sources refer to him by the nickname more than the legal name. No different to Cafu, Pepe, Deco, whatever. 84.65.199.217 (talk) 21:30, 6 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Speedy close. The request is malformed, since there is an article at Bono. Srnec (talk) 04:09, 7 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Move to Bono (footballer). No, the footballer is definitely not "the most famous/notable person with this name". Zzyzx11 (talk) 04:57, 7 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose move to Bono (footballer). Shwcz (talk) 11:27, 7 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. he's the most famous/notable person with this name. I can only assume you're either joking or spectacularly unknowledgeable about anything other than football! Bono (footballer) would be okay. -- Necrothesp (talk) 13:49, 7 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose as proposed as clearly not the PRIMARYTOPIC, but fine with move to Bono (footballer). GiantSnowman 20:14, 7 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. Unless the person who requested this page change has reliable sources, the singer of the same nickname/stage name/etc isn't some unknown person. I would be fine with changing the page to "Bono (footballer)" though. Clear Looking Glass (talk) 10:59, 8 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Speedy close per Srnec. Also, I struggle to see this as a good faith nomination for the reason outlined by S.A. Julio. ser! (chat to me - see my edits) 17:28, 10 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
