Julio Iglesias

Julio Iglesias is definitely not Latin American, he is Spanish. So, I have changed She and Julio Iglesias were the only Latin Americans on the list. to She was the only Latin American on the list.--Estradin 09:15, 21 May 2006 (UTC)

Pele and Senna

The comment, "...Pelé and the late Ayrton Senna, both regarded as important figures in Brazil." is an understatement to say he least. Pele is THE legendary sports figure of Brazil and would be on the short list of most famous people on the planet. Senna was a huge figure in his day and, in fact, when Brazil won the World Cup in '94--75.24.215.146 03:20, 16 July 2006 (UTC) the team unfurled a banner of tribute to Senna. So it would seem the article should reflect that. It is relevant to what a famous figure Xuxa is given her own success plus the extraordinarily noteworthy personal life she's had. For the US, it would be like someone dating Muhammed Ali and Joe Montana. 75.24.215.146 03:20, 16 July 2006 (UTC)

Pronunciation?

Loathe though I am to admit it, as a nonnative Spanish speaker I find it somewhat difficult to figure out how to pronounce Xuxa's given name - and very difficult to figure out how to pronounce "Xuxa"! This seems like an appropriate thing to add to the page - I know most encyclopedias have pronunciation keys for location names or other proper names no longer in common use. Can someone with knowledge of the correct enunciation add this?

edit.: 1st - It's Portuguese, not Spanish. Why can't people get that right? We dont call Americans Canadians... how hard can it be? 2nd - Xuxa would be pronounced as "Shoo-Sha" kinda like "Shoo"-get away and "sha" as in "shaRP"

Heh — the "sha" in "sharp" sounds nothing like "sha" in other English usage. "ɑɹ" (ar) versus "ɑ" (ah). I mean, good and fine that you're correcting, but correcting only half-right ;)

71.235.66.254 02:46, 23 March 2007 (UTC)

Contradiction?

I am not at sure if bias POV, vandalism, or half-truth but there is contradicting passages in the article that need to be explained and modified. In the "Xou de Xuxa" section, the last passage states that every year she releases "box office hits", feature length films. In the last passage of "Xuxa movies", it is stated that all her films have been "box office flops". What is the consensus of the major editors of this article?--Kenn Caesius 20:26, 23 August 2006 (UTC)

The article contains lots of original research and lacks of sources. --201.79.131.248 (talk) 12:36, 8 August 2008 (UTC)

Vegetarian?

Hi, can anyone please provide sources that prove that Xuxa is vegetarian? Thanks. --Amir E. Aharoni 06:50, 4 May 2006 (UTC)

Xuxa was interviewed in the August 1983 issue of the Brazilian edition of Playboy magazine. The interviewer, editor Ivo Cardozo, states in the introduction "Não fuma, não bebe, não come carne, açúcar ou massas.", which (I think; I'm not fluent in Portuguese) translates to "[She] doesn't smoke, doesn't drink, doesn't eat meat, sugar or pastas." (page 100)

Grammatical and Mechanical Errors

There are a lot of mistakes on the Xuxa page. For example, there is no such noun as a "born". I am going to take care of a few today. Hopefully, someone can help out later.

I just placed the cleanup template, there`s a lot of poorly written sentences and I can't edit now. --Fmafra 17:34, August 24, 2005 (UTC)

This article is still in need of cleanup, but it appears the cleanup template has been removed.--Silverhand 17:12, 11 January 2006 (UTC)
I've replaced the template and I'll work on this some in the next few days.--Silverhand 17:24, 11 January 2006 (UTC)

Paquitas

I removed this section about the Paquitas. If they are so much notable, they deserve an article for themselves.

You should put it back - as a brazilian I can tell you: it's impossible to talk about Xuxa without mentioning the Paquitas. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.236.84.43 (talk) 11:09, 9 August 2009 (UTC)

I think it sounds like radical. Maybe some of Paquitas were notable but they didn't deserve an article for themselves yet. The most notables are Letícia Spiller, Juliana Baroni, Graziella Smichtt and Bianca Rinaldi.

THE PAQUITAS

Xou da Xuxa was a hudge massive sucess in Brazil. Other Xou da Xuxa casting sucess was the Xuxa's dancers was the Paquitas. All this eight girls sunged and danced in the this kids show with Xuxa, and they recorded a vocals on Xuxa's records. Since 1986 to 1993 those "Paquitas" of Xou da Xuxa was:

Paquita: Andrea Veiga - She was the first Paquita, and he get in the group with 15 years in 1986. She left the group in January/1988 with 17 years. She hosted a program but it failed. Now she's mother and it gaved up to be a famous person.

Xiquita: Andrea Faria - The second one, get in the group with 12 years in 1986 together with "Paquita". She recorded one of two records of "Paquitas" in 1989. She left the group in January/1990.

Pituxa: Louise Wischermann - The international sucessfull actress, she get in the groupin August/1986 when she's was 13. She was an Xuxa's neighboor. She left the group in September/1988 when she's 15.

Catuxa: Ana Paula Guimaraes - She get in the group when she's was 12. She left the group in February/1989 and coming again in May/1992 with 17. When she's back, another girl replaced her with Catuxa's nickname. And Ana Paula Guimaraes was renamed Catu.

Xiquitita: Roberta Cipriani - She get in the group when she was 10 years old in April/1987. And she stayed at the end of Xou da Xuxa in December/1992 and January/1995 at the year of Xuxa Park, Xuxa's new Program.

Pituxita: Ana Paula Almeida - She get in the group in Julhy/1987 when she was 11. And she left the group in January/1995.

Paquitita: Tatiana Maranhao - In October/1987 she get in the group with 10 years old. And she left the group in November/1990 to being a singer. But it fails. Today she is public-relashionships.

Catuxita: Priscilla Miranda - She always was in Xou da Xuxa to play with other kids, like any Xuxa's fan. And she always wins the Top Model contest in Xou, because of her big hair. And Xuxa invites her to be a Paquita. She get in the group when she was 09 years old in March/1988.

Pituxa Pastel: Leticia Spiller - A hudge brazilian actress. She getted in the Paquita contest in 1988. She replaced the first Pituxa, Louise Wischermann. Both look like - blond hair & blue eyes. She wins the contest and in November/1988 when she was 14, she became a new Pituxa. and what about Pastel? Pastel in portuguese it means "fuzzy" because when shes danced, she fell on the ground and always doing silly things. She was lovely. In May/1992 she left the group with 18 years old to became a sucessfull and hudge actress. And she win in her carreer. She maded more than 10 soppoperas and many, many speacials on TV Globo, when Xuxa's host your programs since 1986. And she wins many TV awards.

Miuxa: Catia Paganote - She get in the group when she was 12 in March/1989. She always was in the Paquitas contest but she never wins. Finaly, Xuxa gave a chance to her giving a place in the Paquitas group. She stayed with Xuxa to January/1995.

Catuxa Jujuba: Juliana Baroni - Another sucessfull brazilian actress. When Catuxa (Ana Paula Guimaraes) left the group in 1989, Xuxa realised another Paquita contest in December/1989. In February/1990 with 12 years old, Juliana wins the contest and she became a new Catuxa. Why Jujuba? Beacuse her school nickname was Jujuba. She stayed at January/1995

Xiquita Bibi: Bianca Rinaldi - Another sucessfull brazilian actress. Bianca was 15, when she getted in the Paquitas group. She lost at second place for Juliana in the same Paquita contest when the both girls was. And in March 27th was Xuxa's 27th aniversary, and she get in the group. She was the new Xiquita (place left by Andrea Faria) Why Bibi? Beacuse it was a her family nickame. She stayed too at January/1995

Paquitita Pluft: Flavia Fernandes - She get in the group when she's 14. She was an another girl who was on Paquitas contests in 1989 and 1990. When Tatiana (the first Paquitita) left the group in November/1990 Flavia replaced her and she became a new Paquitita. Why Pluft? Because she was very white like a ghost.

The Paquitas whose stayed with Xuxa at January/1995 at the first year of Xuxa's new program Xuxa Park, left the group and another girls get at the group and it last at 2002.

Xuxa's real name was spelled wrong!

I corrected Xuxa's real name which was listed as Maria das Graças Meneghel when it is really Maria da Graça Meneghel.

I also added a few external links.

Court Appearance

I have removed the sentance " However, she went to court to prevent Amor, Estranho Amor being released on video in the mid-90s. " is the only source i could find (i will admit i didnt look too long) is this: http://www.mutantnation.com/underground/xuxa.asp, which i wouldnt class as being reputable, and every other reference i was able to uncover suggests this to be unconfirmed rumour. The film was released to video, although does not appear to be redily available. If someone can source this, re-add it, and if i can find a source i will re-add and cite. Provider uk 12:41, 12 January 2006 (UTC)

Found portugese version of the wikipedia has http://pt.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amor_estranho_amor, suggesting "Marlene Mattos" owns the rights to the film and wilnot allow re-release in brazil. I only intended editting to correct obvious spelling/grammer errors, this article probably needs someone with a better grasp of portuguese than me or babelfish... Provider uk 21:28, 12 January 2006 (UTC)

Wow, talk about WHITE-WASHING the Amor, Estranho Amor controversy! How can this movie NOT have its own English language Wikipedia entery and where's a noticeable paragraph about this movie in her main article (here)? She's used her father's unfair due influence to play fast and loose w/ the rules to all but totally sequester this embarrassment she put herself in by choosing to do it, so it's all but been swept under the carpet. Take your lumps, Xuxa. Macshill (talk) 04:21, 5 July 2010 (UTC)

Well, I added the references asked by Provider, taken from a reputable source, but you can easily find a million in the Net, not to mention books and articles written in reputed magazines. Actually, this is an example of how people not familiarized with a topic or person can damage Wikipedia reputation: as Macshill notes, this is a clear case of whitewashing. Xuxa not only sued, she actually bought all the film copies and magazines with the pictures of the film through her then agent, Ms. Mattos. Later they broke up and her show ratings went down. I did not mention this facts in the article because I do not want to be seen as anti-Xuxa, although I frankly find that her attitude, the one of the dumb blonde, is terrible for a children show. I also added the ratings of her films at the Internet Movie Database. The numbers speak by themselves: she's one of the worst actresses in the world, according to popular vote. I was also shocked back in 1981 when she appeared with Pelé on the cover of a national magazine with a naked breast and Pelé holding two bottle of pills. If media spinning has ever succeeded in changing the image of a person from femme fatal to children show hostess, this is the egregious case. 186.82.109.232 (talk) 15:11, 12 January 2011 (UTC)

Clean up

The article has been cleaned of unsourced statements. The "Career" surely needs expansion now. But it should only be done with information from reliable independent sources. --Damiens.rf 16:25, 5 April 2011 (UTC)

Article needs copy editing

Many sections of this article appear to have been written in another language and translated by Babel Fish. Syntax is atrocious. I would say that a good copy edit is needed of nearly all sections. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.13.208.50 (talk) 19:36, 3 June 2013 (UTC)

Copy/paste issue, etc.

The entire first paragraph of section 1 is copy/pasted from her biography at xuxa.com. I do not claim to know enough about her career to fix the major problems associated with this article, but I must echo the comment above me: for an international entertainer who has received popular and critical acclaim in Latin America to rival even that of her contemporaries (e.g. Michael Jackson) to have a Wikipedia article with abysmal grammar, syntax, and mis-translations does her a great disservice. 75.28.176.197 (talk) 00:36, 17 August 2013 (UTC)

Polish descent?

The catagory "Brazilians of Polish descent" has been added to this article, but there is nothing in the article that backs this up. Can someone either find a source or delete the catagory? Podagrycznik (talk) 15:07, 19 October 2010 (UTC)

Xuxa is listed on the Wikipedia page for Polish Brazilians under the section Notable Polish Brazilians, but there is no citation there that I saw. I also found a newspaper, a magazine and four books on the web that all say she's of Polish descent. I don't know the proper way to format external citations for Wikipedia, so if someone could take a look at these and cite them, that would be great. Thanks.

Poor translation

Made a minor edit changing the translation of "Amor Estranho Amor" from "Love Weird Love" to the proper translation of "Love Strange Love".

Also, the movie name was linked to a non-existent Wikipedia page so I changed the link to the IMDB page for that movie.

I agree. Very poor translation. Very difficult to read. It also is written in an apparent stream of consciences form. Dkelber (talk) 13:23, 26 August 2020 (UTC)
