Sourcing[edit]

This article has already been deleted multiple times, because of someone's attempt to use it as apparent advertising. I was able to get the article re-created, after rewriting it from scratch, and getting approval from multiple admins. Please, do not add anything new to the article, unless you have an actual published source that shows where the information is coming from. If the article is just turned into an ad again, it may just get deleted again. --Elonka 00:09, 8 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

unwarranted deletion[edit]

This article is being unfairly deleted. Winged Foot Golf Club details the same kind of information as Wykagyl, and it is rated high on the quality scale of Wikigolf. To single this article out for removal is not justified.--FlanneryFamily (talk) 06:55, 14 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure what you're talking about. The article has been rewritten and approved. If you would like to add further information to the article, all that is needed is to ensure that you are only using information that has already been published in reliable secondary sources. See also WP:V. --Elonka 16:10, 14 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I apologize - I am not the best with words, but i think my point is pretty easy to understand. . . Most of this page has been deleted and rewritten since the day it was created. The information consistantly being deleted from the article, about its general history, course layout, user reviews and tournament/event timeline, is the same type info. found on every other golf course article. The similarities are also seen in other sports venues as well ie: Yankees Stadium or NASCAR arena. In each case you will find detailed historical accounts, course/stadium descriptions, sames, tournaments, important dates etc., and in each case there is minimal citation etc. The need exists to repeatedly 'correct' the Wykagyl article yet no one else? The focus on 'Wykagyl Golf Club' has been unwarranted and unfair from the start. --FlanneryFamily (talk) 21:19, 14 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The reason that the article was originally deleted, was because the information in it was stolen from somewhere else. It is not acceptable to just copy/paste information from some other website, and drop it into Wikipedia. Accordingly, I have rewritten the article from scratch, including information from various articles that have been written about Wykagyl.
What you have been doing, is completely wiping out my text, and replacing it with something else that again appears to be a copyright violation. Please stop doing this. If you would like to add information, that you are writing (and isn't a copy/paste from somewhere else), then please add it, and include a link stating where you are getting your facts from. --Elonka 21:45, 14 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Originally the information was copied word-for-word from the Wykagyl Club website. The data however, is factual, historical, general knowledge information obtainable from a number of sources. Questions over copied text or 'wording' does not negate the validity of the subject matter (ie: Tournament names, dates and players, course architects and golf professionals) and certainly doesnt warrant 'wiping out' significant data.--FlanneryFamily (talk) 14:58, 20 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Information taken from the Wykagyl website should (a) not be copied for word for word; and (b) be taken with a grain of salt. Per Wikipedia policy, any claim of notability should come from a third-party source, not from the organization's own site, because of the risk of self-promotion and exaggeration. See also WP:V and WP:COI. Some of the language in the Wikipedia article is straying into the realm of "advertising copy" and will need to be cleaned up. Please strive for a tone of neutrality and encyclopedic language. --Elonka 16:33, 20 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Information/text taken from the Wykagyl website has been previously removed and/or changed by you. Current 'claims of notability' are all from third-party sources. The language is on par with that of other 'Golf Courses' articles on Wikipedia. I direct your attention to the following pages 'Pebble Beach', 'Wetchester Country Club', 'Winged Foot' and welcome your input/edits relating to info. sourcing and article language and verifibility(see:WP:V). --FlanneryFamily (talk) 18:05, 20 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
