Name[edit]

Singaporean names can be a pain since they follow Hong Kong in mixing things around in unpleasant ways: Dan Tan Seet Eng is a guy whose English name is Dan Tan and Chinese name is Chen Xuerong; he uses the Hokkien pronunciation of the Chinese name (Tan Sih-eng) but a variant spelling of Seet and doesn't bother noting the combined nature of his personal name. ("Seet Eng" go together, which is obvious in well-formatted pinyin but not the way he does it.)

It seems like this name should be straightforward: Wilson should be his English name and Raj Perumal should be his Tamil name. Tamil names put the surnames last, so he's Wilson Perumal and Raj Perumal. But I keep seeing his name written as Wilson Raj as well. Does that just come from the Indian custom of using people's first names? or a confusion of his name with a Chinese one? or is Raj really his last name? — LlywelynII 18:55, 17 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
