Keep focused[edit]

This is supposed to be a biography of McCall, and should have standard headers and cover more of his life than sensational cases. In addition, there is far too much overlap with articles on Groveland Four and Groveland Case, which should be merged. All that should not be repeated here, but the facts that relate to McCall, his actions, and accusations/comments about him.Parkwells (talk) 19:30, 23 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I am concerned that this sentence in the Groveland Four section may not be correct: "Ambulances took McCall and Irvin to Waterman Hospital in Eustis." I heard or remember reading somewhere that Irving would not have been allowed in an ambulance for white people and that he lay shot on the ground until a hearse from a black funeral home came from Leesburg, FL to transport him to the hospital. I have looked a bit, but can't find a source to verify this. Anyone? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:881:8380:80:7021:A977:2597:D92 (talk) 15:22, 22 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The account of the incident and the delay in the transport of Irvin to the hospital is contained in Gilbert King's Pulitzer Prize winning book Devil in the Grove on pages 236-237. The sentence as written in the Wikipedia article is not incorrect, however it does not mention the delay of the wounded Irvin to the hospital because of a Jim Crow law that did not permit the transport of blacks in hospital ambulances. Rewrite the sentence if you like. Gilbert King's book is already used as a reference. VFF0347 (talk) 17:42, 13 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
