Location[edit]

Changed neighborhood back to Jamaica Plain. All land lying west of the junction of Harvard Street and Blue Hill Avenue is West Roxbury (Jamaica Plain section), despite how the zip code reads.

Zip codes were created by the Post Office in the 1960s to simply have a more efficient system to deliver the mail, and do not delineate cities, towns or neighborhoods. In fact, there are several instances where zips even cross state lines, two examples are 42223 (Kentucky/Tennessee) and 63673 (Illinois/Missouri).

Need more proof? Go to the City of Boston Street Book and look up any of the streets that run between Franklin Park and Blue Hill Ave (e.g. Calder, Angell, Shandon Rd, Franklin Hill Ave etc) and you'll see they are listed as West Roxbury, despite the zip code.
