It seems that this article should be moved and called 'wildwater' as whitewater racing could refer to slalom, extreme racing, and even some marathons. Maybe the page called 'whitewater racing' should consist only of links to each separate article. What do you say? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 64.170.22.181 (talk • contribs).

I disagree and believe this article should have separate sections for every type of whitewater racing, I don't think each discipline of whitewater racing, wildwater or downriver racing should have its own, small page. I believe redirect pages (to this page) from all disciplines of racing might be more appropriate than doing it vice-versa. Bennyboyz3000 09:02, 3 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with Bennyboyz. Until this edit, this article contained info about both Wildwater and Slalom. Surprisingly, after that edit, there wasn't even a mention of slalom in this article—not even a link. I've changed my mind. The Slalom and Wildwater pages are large enough to stand on their own, and the two disciplines are different enough so that combining the two would not have much content common to the two subjects. (Not to mention that Slalom is an Olympic sport, while Wildwater, sadly, is not.) Accordingly, this article should be renamed "Wildwater racing."--HughGRex 12:21, 4 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I started this article. It is about the competitive racing discipline of White Water Racing. It is not about slalom or play boating. The problem with titling this article "Whitewater Racing" is that it's ambiguous; Kayak slalom does, as you know, take place on whitewater. If you google "Whitewater Racing," as I've just done, you'll find many links to whitewater slalom.

You're incorrect if you think that "Wildwater" is a term that's only used in England. According to the links and references to the end of the article, it's also called Wildwater in the US, UK, and South Africa. Most importantly, the ICF calls it Wildwater. Wikipedia should follow the naming conventions employed by the international governing body of the sport. It's clear, therefore, that this article should be titled "Wildwater racing."--HughGRex 13:13, 20 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Wanted: Regional (Mid-Atlantic) dam release information for navigable rivers.[edit]

It seems that many whitewater canoeing and kayaking enthusiasts are often hoping for enough rain to run their favorite stretches of river unless they live in a region that regularly receives ample rainfall. It would be convenient to have a wiki link that provides regional (Mid-Atlantic) river information on rivers fed by dam release flows. These rivers often have more consistency in water level if the reservoir is full.ReiddavisODU (talk) 20:41, 12 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
