Question[edit]

Is it possible to get inside this monument? There is a door or bricked up door on the side of it —Preceding unsigned comment added by 89.100.40.110 (talk) 22:07, 2 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

With a small explosive device properly placed I'm sure it is possible to get inside. But let's not go WP:BEANS!! (Sarah777 22:17, 2 December 2007 (UTC))[reply]

Cultural references section[edit]

The following claim is made in the Cultural References section:

The monument is referenced throughout James Joyce's Finnegans Wake. The first page of the novel alludes to a giant whose head is at "Howth Castle and Environs" and whose toes are at "a knock out in the park (p. 3)"

Is there a reliable source to support the claim that James Joyce had the Wellington Monument in mind when he wrote about a giant's toes? The fragment cited from Finnegans Wake is so entirely open to interpretation as to be vague beyond usefulness. — O'Dea (talk) 17:23, 9 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
