I re-added the line regarding Woolworth and the five and dime, but changed the wording. It is worth keeping in.

FW Woolworth did not open his first store in Watertown, but he invented the five and dime concept while employed at the Smith and Moore Department Store in Watertown. His success with the idea led him to leave Watertown and open his first store in Utica, NY.

History, Category and Reference

76.102.31.185 (talk) 21:19, 22 July 2008 (UTC) I think the article needs more on Watertown's 19th-20th c. history and significance, as it relates to the development of industry and wealth across the northern states. I have to find the citation, but around the turn of the 20th century, Watertown had more millionaires per capita than any other city in the United States, which shows its wealth. The residents' pride was shown in their ambitious public and private buildings: historically significant Public Square, a park designed by Frederick Law Olmsted (who did Central Park), and mansions. I have to check the National Register of Historic Places, but know there is more than one Watertown listing on there.--Parkwells 23:17, 30 September 2007 (UTC)

Because of this, I added the category: List of Registered Historic Places, Jefferson County, NY, as described in the wiki guidelines for category, National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). Recent Events

These events took place 1 and 2 years ago. Their inclusion doesn't seem in keeping with the encyclopedia approach. They seem included to make fun of some of the attitudes and incidents in the town. I'm not sure if they are significant enough to include and recommend deletion, even if they have temporary "news" interest.--Parkwells 19:48, 10 October 2007 (UTC)

Frank Sinatra

Does anyone want to add to the trivia section or the media section above it that Frank Sinatra did a whole album called Watertown which I believe is about Watertown. Watertown (city), New York → Watertown, New York – As the lead of the towns article even states, most references to Watertown, New York refer to the city. The town can keep its article name, but I think the city should be moved to the WP:COMMONNAME. Lallint⟫⟫⟫Talk 23:27, 8 February 2022 (UTC)

  • Support. The base name cannot be a redirect to one of the topics; per WP:DAB is must either host the primary topic (as proposed here), be a dab page, or redirect to another term as a primary redirect. The dab page could be restored, but I think the city is an obvious primary topic here, with appropriate hatnotes and links to the town. Mdewman6 (talk) 23:46, 8 February 2022 (UTC)
I highly doubt anyone would think that the parenthetical disambiguator was specifically referring to New York as a town, rather than applying to the title as a whole. Rreagan007 (talk) 01:10, 11 February 2022 (UTC)

    The town seems to have absolutely nothing unique to offer, but on a re-think yes I think we shouldn't merge the page but we should rename it from Watertown (town), New York to Watertown, New York (town) Lallint⟫⟫⟫Talk 22:17, 12 February 2022 (UTC)
