Text from 2001[edit]

I'm thinking that Waterloo should point to Battle of Waterloo via a link, and that text about the battle should be at BoW. That way "Waterloo" could be used to outline the many, many places and things in the world that are named after the battle. Your thoughts on the matter? -- Paul Drye

Yeah, you're dead right. I was about to do that myself.

Waterloo, New York[edit]

Don't you mean that there are two towns named Waterloo in Wisconsin? The reason being, in New York the village of Waterloo is located within the town of Waterloo. So, in that sense there is only one Waterloo in New York. 66.66.245.85 18:53, 29 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Waterloo, Iowa[edit]

The following exchange is from my Talk Page, where a bot cast doubt on my link to the disambig page for this city:

Disambiguation link notification[edit]

Hi. When you recently edited Waterloo, Iowa, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Waterloo (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Actually, as I noted in the Edit Summary when I posted the link, this time it was entirely intentional. The problem is, I don't know which of the many Waterloos those who renamed the settlement intended it be named after. The disambiguation page at least provides a list of possibilities. It would be better, if it can be documented, to state in the article which "Waterloo" the name came from. It may even have been named after the Belgian place that gave the battle its name, but I think it's more likely to have been the battle itself, or one (which?) of the many other places named, directly or indirectly, after the battle. --Haruo (talk) 18:01, 22 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Waterloo in popular culture[edit]

Having a link to Waterloo in popular culture may be fine but this page has to include links to pages that are called Waterloo e.g Waterloo (video game), Waterloo (1929 film). The Waterloo disambiguation page without a link to Waterloo (ABBA song) etc. defeats the purpose. Tassedethe (talk) 03:06, 2 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
