Irrigation: Off-topic[edit]

The recent additions by Monsoon Waves concerning irrigation water pricing appear off-topic to me in this article. The general description of water scarcity does not belong into an article that focuses specifically on water pricing. And the example from Gujarat, while interesting, has nothing to do with water pricing, since both water and electricity continue to be provided for free to farmers in Gujarat. Instead, this is a good example of non-price measures to reduce water demand in agriculture. It would thus fit well into another article, but not here. I would appreciate receiving an reaction from Monsoon Waves before possibly moving or deleting the off-topic information.--Mschiffler (talk) 22:35, 6 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I have not received a reaction so far. In the meantime I looked for articles where this information could fit. One is Water in India. Another possibility would be to create an article on "Water demand management" or "Irrigation water demand management" and include the information there. I will wait a few more days for a reaction and would otherwise remove the off-topic content.--Mschiffler (talk) 21:30, 11 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Agricultural water pricing: Copy-pasted from the article it cites[edit]

Hello fellow users,

I am new to the world of making edits or major changes on Wikipedia so I am bringing this up on the talk page before I do anything myself. The "Agricultural water pricing" section is almost in its entirety copied and pasted from the last five sentences of the abstract of the article which it cites in text, "Comparative analysis of agricultural water pricing between Azarbaijan Provinces in Iran and the state of California in the US: A hydro-economic approach." The first sentence of the section is only superficially altered from the original article.

While quotations are allowed under Wikipedia policy, and the article which the text is from is cited, it is not presented in quotes, and constitutes the entirety of the section without any further elabouration or supporting discussion in text. Wikipedia's rules do not allow for copy-pasting material and requires that text be written in the words of the author/editor themself.

If in fact the section is in line with Wikipedia rules then I will not endeavour to make any corrections, edits, or place any flags myself. If this is, as it appears to me, a violation of Wikipedia policy however, I will try to make some kind of correction in the near future.

This indeed goes against our rules, but the handle (Marzimomeni) of the account that added the text ([1]) indicates (most likely) that the text was added by its original author. In case they are listening, I am pointing here to WP:DCM for the proper procedure. The bigger issue here is that the link is to an apparently pay-to-publish journal (see [2] in the bottom left corner) that is not considered a good source. I would suggest re-writing the section using a better WP:RS. Викидим (talk) 03:25, 24 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
