Wat Arun, Bangkok, Thailand
Wat Arun ("Temple of the Dawn") is a Buddhist temple in Bangkok, Thailand, across the river from the Grand Palace. It is named after Aruṇa, the Hindu god of the dawn, and was restored in the early 19th century during the reign of Rama II. Shown here is the entrance to the ordination hall.Photo: D Ramey Logan

Image in infobox[edit]

Hi, GünniX, I would like to replace the image in the infobox by this one, because imo, it is of a better quality. Thank you for your time. Lotje (talk) 07:29, 25 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The lighting is indeed better, but unfortunately one of the peripheral prang is obscured from that angle. Looking briefly through the Commons category and on Flickr doesn't reveal a better alternative either. It seems few people visit in the morning. --Paul_012 (talk) 10:00, 25 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for asking me. My image in the first revision was removed long before. Your image shows a blue sky, in the bright sunshine the trees and the river are more beautiful, too. But Wat Arun is hidden. So I prefer the current image in the infobox. --GünniX (talk) 17:34, 25 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Wat Arun

Wat Arun is a Buddhist temple in Bangkok, Thailand. The temple derives its name from the Hindu god Aruna. This photograph shows the sculptures of two mythical giant demons, Thotsakan (green-skinned) and Sahatsadecha (white-skinned), guarding the eastern gate of the temple's ordination hall, a building designated for the performance of upasampadā, the Buddhist ordination ritual, and other ritual ceremonies. The entrance of the ordination hall has a roof with a central spire, decorated in coloured ceramic and stucco and sheathed in coloured china.

I have tidied up some of the English as it seems to have been written by someone whom, while they have very good English, English is not their first language, and there were some small errors.

Some of the photos need recaptioning. 'Buddha lord statue inside the chapel' would be better as 'Lord Buddha in the main shrine.' Also 'buddha sculpture in Wat Arun' should be 'Buddha statues in Wat Arun', and 'photo made in march 2020 by me' should be '2020 picture by Jean-Pierre Grosset'. I don't know where these captions are stored and don't know how to alter them.

Also for some reason this title has turned red. I don't know why. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Indigocat (talkcontribs) 10:14, 13 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
