Adel Ariston?[edit]

I don't know who Adel Ariston is. I googled him/her and have found nothing. Who is this person and why are they notable?

To the person above, I have added some information about W-L crew. Feel free to edit if you think I was too terse or too vague. Go Generals! Sdej 05:50, 19 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Come to think of it, who is Alan Lacy Walker too? I can't find any info about him either. I am consequently removing him from the list of notable alumni.

hey I removed two other non-notables (they're not even alumni yet). the page needs to be watched

Any evidence that Dave Batista went to W-L?

--Alojmm 01:14, 7 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I removed him because there were no google hits when his name was searched along with washington-lee

I added Carl Tanner to the famous alumni list[edit]

Carl Tanner is one of the most pretigious and sought-after tenors in opera today. He has thousands of fans around the world and is respected by the most famous opera singers alive today, including Placido Domingo and Luciano Pavarotti.I don't know that this is the forum to wax-on about him, but he had his La Scala debut singing the lead in Carmen a couple of years ago. He sang at the White House, and is booked in opera-houses around the world until 2012. -Monica 11:57, 29 April 2006 (UTC)

Athletics[edit]

The section on athletics can be expanded quite a bit. Maybe some digging into the records on the VHSL web site would turn up some data on state championships.

If you go to the Yorktown and Wakefield articles they clearly have more information. We should include more about performing arts, specifically the extremely accomplished music programs. Also something should be said about WL traditions. Gadeec 12:41, 22 August 2007 (UTC)E[reply]

Herringer Relays[edit]

Can something about the Herringer Relays be added? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 134.131.125.50 (talk) 17:54, 9 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Washleearlington.jpg[edit]

Image:Washleearlington.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

fine arts[edit]

inserted a general overview of the music dept and its accomplishments and removed the following which was awkwardly inserted, too specific, and far too idiosyncratic (but the section should still be expanded; however, it should fit the general tone of the article):

Washington Lee High School is home to the Washington-Lee Madrigals, which is the school's choir under the direction of Theresa Severin. Madrigals is an elective available to those who audition and make it into the group. In addition to Madrigals there is the Women's Chorale and the High School Chorus. The Music Room where these classes are held is adjacent to three Practice Rooms, where students may go in voice parts and practice their music. Within these Practice Rooms, one may record the proceedings occuring in the room and play it back. Washington Lee's Drama productions occur three times a year. In the fall there is a "straight" play directed by the Drama Teacher Keith Cassidy. The Winter play is student directed, this year's play is Clue: The Musical. In the spring there is the school musical. This year the musical is Godspell, which is also Wakefield's Musical this year. Arborday (talk) 10:21, 22 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Issues[edit]

There are many more than what I cite here

Needs additional references[edit]

  • Unreferenced: "A Washington-Lee senior, Chris Tyson, recently achieved the state championship in the 1000m run in 2007."
  • No mention of this fact in the referenced website: "Washington-Lee is the only school in Arlington that offers both the Advanced Placement Program as well as the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme"
  • etc

Contains excessive amount of intricate detail[edit]

  • "There are over 500 computers at Washington-Lee connected to its local area network which provides access to educational software, administrative data bases, and the Internet."
  • "Most current W-L students matriculate from Swanson or Kenmore for grades 6-8 and Taylor, Barrett, Science Focus or McKinley for K-5."
  • etc

lead section requires expansion[edit]

The lead section needs to _summarize_ the important details of the article. It also should answer the question, "Why is this topic important?"

Issues above have been resolved. Removing the nine-year-old maintenance template

Improved article[edit]

I have added citations to the article and deleted outdated information. I've edited the lead to emphasize the important aspect of the school. Amuseclio (talk) 00:00, 12 October 2017 (UTC)Amuseclio[reply]

Timing and handling of name change[edit]

The name change to Washington-Liberty High School takes effect with the 2019-2020 school year. I beleive the article name should change in August 2019 as teachers and athletes report for that school year.

The History section adequately addresses the original name and the decision to change it. Existing references to "Washington-Lee" should remain in that section. References to past awards, accrediations, and test scores, could use either the generic "W-L" or the name in use at the time being referenced.

Gena Rowlands?[edit]

Gena Rowlands (b. 1930) is a film actress. Is there a reason that her name is not included as having attended Washington-Liberty High School? She did, according to the Internet Movie Database IMDB, and signs/posters within the high school. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 192.80.55.86 (talk) 16:14, 10 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

If it's true, and can be cited to a reliable source, then it ought to be there. The omission implies nothing beyond nobody having thought to add her before, or the lack of a reliable source to cite. (IMDb is not considered a reliable source, as the biographical content in it is generated by random users of the site. And I'm afraid you can't cite posters hanging in the building.)
