From the introductory sentence I took out the following snippet:

Reason one: Does/did the town have an official German name? To me it looks more like someone has been doing some illegitimate reverse translating.
Reason two: The mountain range is called "Hohe Tatra". "Höhe" is a noun, "hohe" is an adjective. No German location would be called "Höhe <something>". Compare f.ex. "Hohe Acht" vs "Bad Homburg vor der Höhe". (N.b.: You can find place-designations like "Höhe 304" in military jargon. It literally means "Hill 304".)
Reason three: ['taːtra] is not how the Mountain range is pronounced. I've only ever heard [ˈtatra]).
In Summary: Citation needed. Please prove your statements before presenting them as facts in an article.
