2007 release

HIS ATM azhaigiya tamizh magan is coming out on 15 aug 2007 cant wait looks really good. He's real. But not obviously notable. And see also the now deleted Information of VIJAYSuper Star and the now reverted Introduction (essay), revision http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Introduction_%28essay%29&oldid=27605542 Ben Aveling 21:28, 7 November 2005 (UTC)

My apologies. He does seem to be notable. Someone was creating some pages about him that should not have existed, and in error I tagged this one as well as the others.

Thanks to Thue for clearing the tag.

Regards, Ben Aveling 04:08, 8 November 2005 (UTC)

What is 'pal abishekam' ?

The term needs to be explained, translated into english, or linked to another page that explains the term.

Regards, Ben Aveling 21:32, 8 November 2005 (UTC)

paal abishekam is a Hindu ritual where in the priest pours milk (paal is the Tamil word for milk) on the God's idol. Some extreme fans do similiar rituals with the movie stars and politicians. -- Sundar \talk \contribs 10:30, 11 November 2005 (UTC)
Whatever does it for them. I've created a stub and added a link. Thanks for the info. Ben Aveling 11:02, 11 November 2005 (UTC)

Fancruft

Most of the stuff in the article is fancruft. Comparision with the size of fan following of other actors without any citations is grossly subjective. I don't have the time and energy at this time to fix these, but someone else can do that. Thanks. -- Sundar \talk \contribs 03:55, 16 November 2005 (UTC)

Agreed. Someone vandalised the comparison earlier today anyway, I'll delete it instead of reverting it.

I don't know what to do about the filmography. They can't all be notable, but I hesitate to blast the lot away. Maybe just keep the ones referenced in the body?

Regards, Ben Aveling 05:23, 16 November 2005 (UTC)

Let me give it a try

I shall try to clean it up, but honestly saying he is current box-office hero in Tamil Nadu, Kollywood. He is transforming into another Rajnikanth in Tamil filmdom.

But i can try my best to neutralise this article.

Names of Vijay's children

I am sure their names are Jason Sanjay and Divya Saasha. But someone keeps changing it to Sanjay Jason and Divya Sreesha. Which is correct? Anwar saadat 17:54, 14 April 2006 (UTC)

Aathi - biggest flop or biggest hit?

Have the guts to accept the truth. He has been issued a indefinite red card until his producer-father SA Chandrasekara refunds the fancy minimum guarantees of Rs20+ crores! Anwar saadat 01:16, 22 April 2006 (UTC)

It is a flop, no one can deny the fact. You can talk to Mathu007, he has been editing Aathi as a big hit. I don't like to have the same problem of Ajith's article here.--M.arunprasad 06:16, 22 April 2006 (UTC)
Just like sify, this is another link which says aathi completed hundred days run in some places. So now that it is proved the movie did a fair business at box office. You must be aware that Galatta.com is specialised in cine news, Yahoo and Tamilcinema have tied-up with Galatta.com for cine industry news, So they won't publish a false news. So just add the red card issue mildly without any link. Otherwise you have to babysit Vijay and Ajith article as long as you are in wikipedia. --M.arunprasad 07:25, 25 April 2006 (UTC)
Almost all vernacular media talk about how big were Aadhi's losses. Running 100 days, singular shows daily by paying off show rentals is not accomplishment! Some magazines speculate Aadhi losses were next only to Baba. Exhibitors are going on hunger strike in several districts. Red Card is still in place. Evidence is overwhelming. There is no point in trying to hide Vijay's flops. I am a Ajith fan but I didn't try to hide his Jana! Check out these links - [1], [2], [3]. I am sure there is no smoke without fire! The trade fact is - Aathi never picked up at all after no-show on Day 1. Check out its rank in sixth weekend box office in Chennai Anwar saadat 13:00, 25 April 2006 (UTC)
Cool down :-), i just pointed out fans will refer these links which will prove this movie is a Hit. As you have pointed out, i can point out few links which started saying Thirupathi is doing a bad business at box-office... [4]. See there are people with different opinions, so we can get such links with positives and negatives. As long as you better both the article, i'm happy. If you are going to add flop history only to Vijay (meaning he has given more flops than ajith, which is not true and everyone in TN knows that) which is not fair. --M.arunprasad 05:27, 26 April 2006 (UTC)
Don't worry! I'd not belittle Vijay as against Ajith in Vijay's article itself! I will try my best to paint a reasonably accurate potrait for Vijay soon. If I really wanted to glorify Ajith, then I'd not have written about Heera at all. Btw, I have replaced Thirupathi with Villain as the biggest hit for Ajith. :-( Anwar saadat 11:57, 26 April 2006 (UTC)

Furthermore, the television station Sun T.V. which can of course not publish false information has put Aathi as the number 1 movie for several weeks surpassing the other two movies that were released on pongal. Can you explain that to me? Internet sites can lie, but television stations can not because millions of people will be watching. ---Mathu

Television stations routinely lie. Nevertheless, unless there's evidence to the contrary, they are viable citeable sources for Wikipedia. --Yamla 02:50, 19 June 2006 (UTC)

What would you trust more, a website that can publish lies, or a station that will probably get in trouble by the producers of the movies they allegedly lie about. Sun T.V. is a very reputable television station and it is also the most popular station in all of Chennai. This station has a weekly top ten movies and they base their rating on the box office collection. If this t.v. station lies about aathi being the top, and then paramasivan and saravanna being second and third respectfully, then i'm sure the producers and directors of both paramasivan and saravanna would take legal action to correct this mistake. It is okay for a television station to state their OPINIONS about a movie, however since this station is talking about how well the movie fares at the box office, it is ILLEGAL for the station to post false information and run down the other movies if they are reallt doing well because that would have a negative effect on the audience when they decide what movie to watch. If Sun T.V. is lying, then the produers would most definetly bring up a lawsuit for the t.v. station. Also, there is evidence on Vijay's official site that states Aathi had a good run which is reliable information. I think the only way for this article to stay neutral is if aathi is recorded as neither a hit or a flop. This is the only fair situation because the evidence proves and disproves both sides of this issue. I therfore think that the article should be changed as soon as possible.---Mathu

How many links you need? Not only sify.com, but also other leading portals like indiaglitz.com, behindwoods.com, cinesouth.com, tamilcinema.com and galatta.com have confirmed that Aathi is a flop. Do you think they were all lying? All leading satellite channels like Raj TV, Jaya TV, Vijay TV also said Aathi is a flop. Do you think they were all lying? Only Sun TV said Aathi is average bcoz they have purchased satellite rights for that film. This news came in hindu.com, which is the most respected newspaper in South India. Why Vijay fans can't accept a failure gracefully? All leading magazines like Vikatan, Kumudam, Nakkheeran and Kungumam also reported that Aathi is a flop and female audience have shunned the film due to excessive violence. Do you think they were all lying? So please stop exaggerating about its success. The results of Pongal 2006 are crystal clear - Paramasivan is hit, Saravana is average and Aathi is a flop. Why else would distributors and exhibitors bother to organise a huge press meet to say Aathi is a flop and they want to be compensated? Anwar 22:30, 19 June 2006 (UTC)

Regardless of what you say, there is evidence to support both sides of this issue. It should be left neutral not stating any informaton on it. I'm not saying don't say any of vijay's movies were flops. There were tons of flops, maybe even more than the hits that he had. But Aathi is too controversial to be writing concrete comments about. Keep it neutral, don't talk about it.

Dude, there is nothing controversial about Aathi's failure. Its a clear-cut case. So please stop trying to create a controversy out of a non-issue. Anwar 13:26, 20 June 2006 (UTC)

DR.VIJAY is a next superstar in Tamil cinema & Aathi film is not flop its is a minimum 50 days run in theatre but comparing to AJITH his failure film given below 1; G 2 : THIRUPATHI 3 . ATTAKASAM 4. PARAMASIVAN 5. KIREDAM 6. ANJENEYA these total 7 film not more than 100 days so Dr.VIJAY IS BETTER THAN FAILURE AJITH BY SIVA KUMAR —Preceding unsigned comment added by 202.138.127.160 (talk) 07:46, 18 October 2007 (UTC)

Shoba Chandrasekar's filmography

Can someone please confirm if Vijay's mother Shoba is the same actress Shoba who acted in Kamal's Nizhal Nijamiradhu(1978)? Is this her filmography? Anwar saadat 22:52, 28 April 2006 (UTC)

i think its a mix-up of Shoba (late actress) and Shoba chandrasekaran (Vijay's mom). Vijay'm mom was just a playback singer not an actress. --M.arunprasad 07:51, 5 May 2006 (UTC)
Hmm, I am still not sure about this. Anwar saadat 10:27, 5 May 2006 (UTC)
I'm very sure about my point :-) --M.arunprasad 11:43, 5 May 2006 (UTC)
OK then, can you please change the article accordingly? Also, can you mark the films, which had songs of Vijay, with a note (a) Ippo naan sema kaduppule irukken indha vennai Zoravaale. Anwar saadat 12:37, 5 May 2006 (UTC)

Major revision

I've revised the articles for Rajnikanth, Ajith, and now Vijay. It really seems as if the fans working on these articles were trying to write them to try to top the articles for the rival actors. It would be unfair if we revised one article towards neutrality and didn't touch the other two. So they're ALL done now (or will be done as soon as Anwar gets blocked for breaking 3RR). Guys, these are encyclopedia articles, not fansites, and not counters in a three-way actor war. Please join the Indian cinema project and hang out with the other editors. We're gradually developing a set of guidelines on how to write Indian film articles that, I think, will keep the articles neutral and fair. Let's deserve the readers' trust by writing honest articles. Zora 17:05, 4 May 2006 (UTC)

Your case resembles a Greek teaching Latin to Romans. You have no idea what is important and what is not in the world of Kollywood. You have managed to blank whole paragraphs along with supported links without even pretense of an explanation. That's extreme trolling. You have been reported accordingly. Anwar saadat 17:19, 4 May 2006 (UTC)
It's true, I don't watch many Tamil movies, and I'm not up on the Kollywood gossip. That said, I don't think that there are special rules for Tamil movie articles exempting them from the usual rules for WP articles. The articles you've written are awash with extraneous hagiographic detail, and laden with value judgments. WP does not exist to puff actors and actresses! There is a constant battle throughout Wikipedia to keep out the fancruft, and there was much in those articles that was pure fancruft. Including the external links to all the fansites. The WP policy on external links Wikipedia:External links says that if there is any link to a fansite at all, it should be to ONE site, the best. The Indian cinema project is removing all links save the IMDB and one to the actor's official website. Most fansites are just commercial ploys -- collections of ads with the star's name plastered on it to attract eyeballs.
Editing is not vandalism, nor is it trolling. I don't know where you've "reported" me, but I can't imagine that any admin is going to take your complaints seriously -- especially when you are courting a block by going over 3RR yourself. Also, it's not just me. Many editors have complained about your behavior. I came here because of the complaints. Please join the Indian cinema project and interact with us -- we're a good group, usually a very harmonious group, and we really are making a good case for Indian cinema to the rest of the world. Zora 17:37, 4 May 2006 (UTC)
You haven't still explained the rationale for blanket removal of paragraphs and links. Can you please point out exactly which line or paragraph is hagiographic detail or value judgement in your opinion? Btw, you tried to remove the links that support the article. As you have no clue what is important and what is not in Kollywood, you are certainly not in a position to insert or add or edit this article according to your POV. There is no fancruft in this article. We have removed all of that long ago. Go through history of these articles before reverting tomorrow again. If you have a problem with external links, say so in the talk page rather than blanking the whole article. As I said earlier, we know what we are doing. Please don't presume. Anwar saadat 17:48, 4 May 2006 (UTC)

Latest News: User:Anwar saadat is back as user:212.32.85.221

What do you suggest we do about this vandalist. Find him on the ajith article history! Check out his history, he is purposly putting the days vijay films ran down, so they will look like flops. We must stop him, for the neutrality of Wikipedia. Jath16 15:43, 16 May 2006 (UTC)

Red card

Hello. I am an administrator with no particular stake in this article. I note that Anwar Saadat continues to add content ("red card") to this article and Ravi5099 continues to remove this. It is not clear to me which side is wrong here. Wikipedia works only if the editors can build a consensus. Can someone please tell me whether there is a consensus on whether this information should stay? I can find no evidence of a discussion but have not checked far back through the history. Is this already the case of one single editor pushing a point of view and everyone else reverting, or is this matter open to debate? If there is currently no consensus, I would ask both parties to refrain from editing the article further until it has been discussed here and a consensus reached. This can be enforced if necessary by protecting the page from edits. On the other hand, if someone can provide evidence that there already is a consensus here, I can ask and require one party to stop. Please note that a consensus is not the same as a democratic vote. Please let me know or please discuss the matter here. --Yamla 23:52, 15 June 2006 (UTC)

The edit war continues with no significant attempt to come to a consensus. As such, I have protected this page from all edits. Please let me know once a consensus has been reached. --Yamla 13:54, 16 June 2006 (UTC)

The red card was issued ONLY because the day was delayed by one day, not because the film was a flop. The money lost on that ONE DAY alone was a lot, but that does not make the movie a flop. It is unfair to call aathi a flop just because it missed its release day and lost money because of it.---Mathu

The red card was issued bcoz Vijay refused to compensate the huge losses. Nobody issues red card for one-day delay - which is common in the film industry. The film was sold for over Rs.200 million and did not even get an opening due to lack of marketing and stiff competition from Paramasivan. Such heavy losses were similar to Baba. But Vijay did not compensate like Rajini. Hence the red card. Anwar 22:47, 19 June 2006 (UTC)

Vijay's wife

Vijay's wife is actually from London UK. But her parents are from SriLanka Sarvanan27

Yeah, I know. You can alter this info if you want. At first I wrote the "London-born Sri Lankan Tamil.." but wasn't sure if it was politically correct plus the information emphasized her nativity rather too much, so I altered it to Sri Lankan. Miss p r (talk) 12:34, 30 November 2008 (UTC)

Doctorate

I just reverted an addition that was sourced that stated Vijay was to be the youngest actor awarded with a (in this case honorary) doctorate. Unfortunately, this is simply false. With just a couple of minutes of effort, I found that Anna Friel, approximately two years younger than Vijay, was already awarded an honorary doctorate. See here. I strongly suspect there are others. It may be worth noting our policy on reliable sources, here, is WP:RS. --Yamla 00:51, 13 August 2007 (UTC)

Doctorate

Why have you deleted putting Dr. Vijay? After all, he was legally credited with the honorory doctorate...

Likewise, in the other titles column, in ajith's article, they have used "thala". Then we can use Ilayasuperstar, thangathalapathy etc..? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 59.145.125.98 (talk) 12:17, 4 February 2008 (UTC)

CONTENT!

Dear Editor,

Why have you limited the content of this article to a single paragraph? is there no other news about him? Does it need stupid lines such as "his mother tongue is Tamil"? And why cant you put more things about his childhood life and how he struggled in his childhood days? He is not a born-actor and born-rich. Taking Ajith's article you have put up heaps of things about him with lots of headings. Do Wikipedia thinks Vijay is in someway cheaper than that Ajith? IN NO WAY!

This is not a fan blog after all. Only a global encyclopaedia aspired by all, I believe.

After all, he is an iconous actor in TN next only to Superstar Rajni. If you dont bother, i will be creating a page for vijay with lots of articles which you can search, break your heads and approve it.

Thanks —Preceding unsigned comment added by 59.145.125.98 (talk) 12:30, 4 February 2008 (UTC)

Notes section in filmography

There is no need to list whether a film is a flop or a hit, unless it really affected this actor's career significantly. In such a case, it would appear under the career section in written form anyway. There is no need for this table listing. Saying "Hit", "Super Hit" and "Flop" is not objective. It might be a fact, but without evidence, it has no place in the encyclopedia. At any rate, information about a film's success should be on the film's page, not on the actors. Please discuss here if you have qualms with this view; if not I am removing the hit/flop information from the table. Ckannan90 (talk) 11:35, 3 December 2009 (UTC)

Company spokesperson

I removed the phrase "a spokesperson for companies in India." earlier, but it's been put back. Most actors have advertising deals. I don't think we can put spokesperson for companies under career, unless he literally works in their PR department or something. Spokesperson means something very specific, it is the person who releases official press statements to the media, and holds news conferences. Appearing in ads does not make you a spokesperson. If that is the case, pretty much every actor/actress, and every sports star is a spokesperson.

If there are any good reasons to retain that phrase, please discuss below, if not I am removing it in a few days. Ckannan90 (talk) 18:23, 13 December 2009 (UTC)

{{editsemiprotected}} Is vettaikaran a hit?

{{editsemiprotected}} One line in this wiki says that "vettaikaran released to positive reviews". Everyone in TamilNadu (except hardcore vijay fans and sun TV) will deny this. To be fair and honest I did a google search for the term "Vettaikaran reviews" and found out that the first 3-4 reviews were exceedingly bad. So I propose removing the words "..to positive reviews". In fact I dint find a single positive review :(

It can only be changed if their is a reliable source to back this up, asking people doesn't count. If you could provide those reviews you found, it should work.  fetchcomms 19:20, 17 January 2010 (UTC),
