Old talk[edit]

I propose to move Verdun-sur-Meuse to Verdun, and Verdun to Verdun (disambiguation). Verdun in north-eastern France is IMO the best known Verdun by far (World War I, for instance), and the -sur-Meuse suffix is hardly ever used in real life. Markussep 29 June 2005 06:17 (UTC)

Can we get a map showing its location?


What does "Verdun" = "Verodunum" mean? The *dunum = "town"... what does Vero mean? It is clearly a Celtic name, as famous Romans (ie, Romanized Gauls) had it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.143.68.244 (talk) 04:33, August 26, 2007 (UTC)

To answer my own question, according to these websites, it means "Over-Town", roughly "Up-town":

Military overweight[edit]

Chronology of events vs. inserted photo[edit]

Under the section 'Battle of Verdun,' in the WWI subsection, there is a picture identified as the aftermath of the German artillery bombardment. The picture is dated 1915, but the Germans didn't begin their bombardment until 1916 (this is also stated in the text: Feb. 2016). Can someone determine the veracity of the photo (i.e., is it, in fact, of Verdun? what is the correct date of the image? what is the specific location portrayed in the image?)? Nicolas Psaume[edit]

Princerie[edit]

The "princerie" suggests the building was the home of a Prince. The word "prince" is spelt the same in English and French but the page refers to a "primicier." Is it correct or should this read "prince?" Spinney Hill (talk) 22:53, 26 June 2021 (UTC) I see according to https://educalingo.com/en/dic-fr/primicier there is a French word "primicier which may apply ut clarification from an expert on the subject would be useful.
