University of Applied Sciences Technikum WienUniversity of Applied Sciences Technikum Vienna – Wien refers to the German name for Vienna, the capital city of Austria and where the university is located. In the English language page the English name should preferably be used. Hardknocksacademy (talk) 12:37, 26 August 2021 (UTC) — Relisting.  ASUKITE 14:40, 3 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • @Hardknocksacademy and No such user: queried move request Anthony Appleyard (talk) 15:23, 27 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • @Hardknocksacademy:. I don't think it's so obvious. The university refers to themselves as "Technikum Wien" on their English pages and most English references I've seen do the same. Apparently, "Technikum Wien" is regarded as its fully qualified name, not just "Technikum" that happens to be in Vienna. No such user (talk) 13:59, 26 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. The official English pages of the institution are still primary sources and of little relevance. But I get very few ghits for Technikum Vienna and none seem relevant so think it would be a Wikipedia invention. If we need to translate Wien for recognisability then we should translate Technikum too, but I don't think it is necessary. Andrewa (talk) 17:58, 2 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • Alternative proposal move to "Vienna University of Applied Sciences" since that follows normal English usage and is perfectly clear. Of course, the lede must explain the German name. And there is some backing for that e.g. the Hanover Trade Fair article at Vienna University of Applied Sciences (Technikum Wien) and the EU's List of Austrian educational institutions at Austria - Institutions both with and without a preceding "FH Campus". Bermicourt (talk) 18:20, 3 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
    • Support this alternative, with redirects from both the current name and the proposed one above. I get almost 200,000 relevant ghits for this name, so it is quite common enough. Andrewa (talk) 06:43, 4 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • oppose the univeristy uses the current name [1]—blindlynx (talk) 19:37, 6 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. Nobody uses the proposed name. Would support Vienna University of Applied Sciences or Fachhochschule Technikum Wien. -- Necrothesp (talk) 13:58, 8 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. If an institution has a preferred name in English, I think we ought to use its preferred name unless we have strong reasons for disregarding it. The university's English web pages show they prefer to call themselves in English University of Applied Sciences Technikum Wien (or UAS Technikum Wien for short) – which is consistent with the current article title. I don't think WP:COMMONNAME changes that because I haven't seen any strong evidence that this institution has a well-known / clearly-established name in common English usage which differs from its preferred one. • Move to Vienna University of Applied Sciences per Bermicourt. Satisfies all 5 WP:CRITERIA and some usage in RSs has been shown. We do not follow WP:OFFICIALNAME. Havelock Jones (talk) 12:09, 22 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
