recent reverts[edit]

do'a and friends - there seems to be some edit warring going on. let's try to fix that so it won't happen. there are three items that we need to decide upon, i think

a) the use of the book by robinson, "Building a Palestinian state: the incomplete revolution" where he talks about the roots of NGOs and other organizations, and says that the the UAWC is related to the PFLP.

could you tell me what about this reference doesn't work for you?

b) the references from amira hass in the haaretz - http://www.haaretz.com/hasen/spages/1144286.html

could you tell me what about this reference doesn't work for you?

c) the reference from the jerusalem post: The Israel Law Center said that UAWC is a "front for terror group the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine", and it has issued a warning to the Australian charities.[1]

could you tell me what about this reference doesn't work for you?

i think this will go a long way to helping keep the article accurate, up to date and readable for all. thanks. Soosim (talk) 15:07, 23 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I'm going to try and read the tea leaves here.
a) Care is needed with such attributions. For instance, Robinson says on p.54:

...Not to be outdone, agronomists loosely affiliated with the PFLP established a similar organization, the Union of Agricultural Work Committees (UWAC) in 1986. ...

That 1997 book's statement is a considerable distance from saying the "UAWC is related to the PFLP". One could equally infer that George W. Bush is "related to" Barack Obama simply because they both attended Harvard. Absent further explanation "related to" implies ongoing direct connection, and in this context, support or direct influence. The source doesn't back that up.
b)It looks that this edit deleted the citation to Hass in error, while intentionally deleting the jpost cite.
c)It is hardly surprising that an overtly Zionist publication (the jpost) is seen as having questionable reliability and neutrality on the question of who supports the PFLP. Indeed, by the reasoning of the ILC described in the jpost piece, anyone raising their own food in the territories would be supporting the PFLP. To let that go by without comment should be all the evidence one needs that the source is not neutral. Rather than shoehorn a POV piece in as a reference, look to balanced scholarship (that neither side likes). What countries are seen as honest, neutral brokers by both sides? Perhaps the Swiss, the Swedes, the Indians, the Canadians, or the Brazilians? See what their sources have to say and how they say it. LeadSongDog come howl! 17:21, 23 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
ok, i had edited it with adding an additional source, clearly NPOV, and reverted using the quote from robinson's book, to be more accurate as it is exactly stated. however, this has been undone, yet again. help.... Soosim (talk) 10:58, 27 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

quote from robinson book[edit]

this has been added several times: "This was consistent with the decision in the mid 1990s of many Palestinian NGOs to divest themselves of political links. These links, it was felt at the time, would risk their funding." i went to amazon and did a search at 'look inside the book'. i searched for: funding, union of agricultural work committee/s, political links, mid 1990s, NGOs, divest; and i couldn't find it. can anyone help? the anon IP says not to delete just because i can't find it. ok, anyone else? Soosim (talk) 10:16, 11 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

It isn't in the book afaik. However, the book does contain some useful information so it should be retained as a source. Zerotalk 12:08, 9 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Quibble[edit]

"established in 1986 to improve ... in the early eighties". Umm, 1986 was not in the early eighties. Which is it? Zerotalk 12:18, 23 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Extended-confirmed-protected edit request on 5 April 2017[edit]

The Union of Agricultural Work Committees is not affiliated with PFLP or any other political party. This is clear from their website www.uawc-pal.org. And these accusations are baseless and part of far right defamation process carried out by far right Israeli settler affiliated organizations such as shurat hadin or NGO Monitor. 213.6.51.82 (talk) 05:46, 5 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Extended-confirmed-protected edit request on 25 August 2022[edit]

Please add a reference to the recent raids (something like "On 18 August 2022, Israeli forces raided the headquarters of the six organisations along with the Union of Health Work Committees (outlawed in 2020) in Ramallah and al-Bireh, removed computers and equipment and ordered their closure.[1][2][3])" at the end of the History paragraph shuold do. That's almost copied from Al-Haq, so attribution shuold be given. Also, if you think the addition shuold be improved, you may want to check the other almost identical edits by this IP. 176.247.153.147 (talk) 23:51, 25 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
