This comment is a bit behind the curve, but very relevant. My kids great-uncle, John D. Bridge, was killed when the 496 went down. His body was never recovered. He wasn't "Joe Schmoe". He had a family who felt his loss, and his last terror-stricken thoughts likely were of those loved ones. Think next time you decide to be an anonymous asshole.

Notability[edit]

Why is the USS PC-496 notable? All the article and the cited sources tell me is that the PC-496 did its job and then was sunk by enemy fire. Is that enough for it to be notable? That sounds like the equivalent of Pvt. Joe Schmoe who landed on the beaches of Normandy and was later killed in the Battle of the Bulge.
