Proposed to add Main Event Note on UFC 244 Fight Card[edit]

https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=UFC_244&oldid=924060276 Proposal to add this note in the main event on UFC 244 fight card that the winner of this main event will win the "BMF" championship . This belt is awarded to the winner of this fight and its not someone opinions or "just for fun" thing. The belt is indeed historical as it represents the 500th event of UFC and the fighters who fought in the main event. <reftalk> [1] Regice2020 (talk) 22:26, 1 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Your thoughts[edit]

In the main article 'stoppage' is misspelled, but I'm not qualified to correct it — Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.46.232.86 (talk) 06:47, 3 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Requesting the addition of the fact this was the first UFC event an United States President attended.[edit]

United States President Donald J. Trump attended the event and this was the first time a US President attended a UFC event.

Trump entering to mixture of cheers and boos[edit]

It seems irrelevant to the event. Hatecopter (talk) 22:07, 16 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Hatecopter: I think it was some individuals had a Trump Supporter Agenda to make UFC 244 wiki page PRO-TRUMP. It should not be here . Regice2020 (talk) 07:05, 15 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

GA Review[edit]

I'll pick this up. Kosack (talk) 15:12, 20 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Lead[edit]

  • The lead is rather short, only a single paragraph. There is no mention of any of the actual fights that took place, it seems more concerned with Trump.
  • Add (UFC) after the initial use of Ultimate Fighting Championship to explain further uses of the abbreviation.
  • Refs are only necessary in the lead if the information is not sourced in the main text, per WP:LEADCITE.

Background[edit]

  • "That led up to the booking of this fight", a bit overly wordy. Simply "led to the booking..." would be sufficient.
  • Link Dana White.
  • There's an odd mix of past and future tense in places. For example, "headlined the event" and "will be delivered to the winner of this bout".

President Trump's Attendance[edit]

  • Attendance doesn't need capitalising in the heading.
  • Link Donald Trump for the first mention after the lead.
  • "Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC)", UFC is used several times in the main body before this. Move the abbreviation to the first usage after the lead.
  • "On Saturday, November 2nd" > on November 2. Per MOS:DATEFORMAT.
  • Link Zuffa, Frank Fertitta, Lorenzo Fertitta, Atlantic City, White House and 2016 Republican National Convention
  • "public perception of MMA", the abbreviation has never been used before this. Include a usage in brackets, as in the use of UFC, at the first usage.
  • The section is quite pro Trump. In the lead it mentions he had a mixed reception in the arena. I'd include that here for some balance.

References[edit]

  • In ref 3, staff is not an author.
  • Refs 13, 14, 15 and 16 are bare urls. These refs need to be filled out.

Unfortunately, I'm failing this one upfront as there are too many issues to be addressed in a GA review. The major problem is that there is no actual coverage of the fights. Other than a table listing the results, there is no information of the actual bouts. I would take a look at the other UFC events that have been promoted, UFC 94 and UFC 148, for an example of what I mean. In those, the fights are covered with significant prose describing the basic talking points of the event. The aftermath section also needs expanding in a similar fashion, right now we have a brief mention of two fines. While this is fine for inclusion, I think there is scope for expansion here as well. This page seems more focused on Trump attending rather than covering the actual event itself. With a prose section covering the events of the actual bouts and the issues above being addressed, this will be in much better shape for a renomination. GA Discussion[edit]

That great information about Donald Trump was not added by me and what you mean by PRO-TRUMP?? @Kosack: Regice2020 (talk) 02:05, 5 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

As I said, the lead mentioned that Trump was booed as well as cheered but there is no mention of that in the Trump section. Even a brief search brings up the fact that there were protests outside the area at his attendance ([1]). Kosack (talk) 06:47, 5 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Kosack: Honestly i think Donald Trump should not even be part of UFC 244 Wikipedia in the first place and should more focus on the fighters in the evnets. Regice2020 (talk) 00:51, 7 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
It's fine to include it, numerous reliable sources were reporting on his attendance but it needs to be balanced and, as you say, there should be more focus on the actual event. Kosack (talk) 06:39, 7 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I mean many times there were celebrity on UFC, but we rather not mention those people who made a special appearance. Focus all coverage on fighters that won mostly. Regice2020 (talk) 08:59, 12 February 2020 (UTC).[reply]

UFC 244 : The road to Good Article[edit]

original discuss

Udar55 and Regice2020: Hi Udar55, I saw your message in Dispute resolution noticeboard- UFC 244 and happy to know that you understood my message. As mentioned I am happy to help to get the article to a GA status. Since the discussions of this issue has been mentioned in few different talk pages, so I will respond here instead. First of all, Wikipedia is a work in progress and article can be improved overtime. We could work on the article toward GA in the article itself or we could copy and paste the article in our sandboxes or a sub page so we could invite other editors to improve the article. There are easily a dozen of MMA fighters and UFC events articles would improve to achieve GA status and if any editors willing to collaborate we could do them in a "Work in Progress" sub page. Let me know you guys agree and please read the comment for the GA reviewer at Talk:UFC 244. I here invite NEDOCHAN who a regular MMA editor and a qualified EFL teacher (means he is an expert in English grammar) who could run thought the final version of the articles to correct any ce and making the sentences in more concise manner, and I thank NEDOCHAN in advance if he willing to help. Once again it is good to see editors able to settle the issue in civility and I applaud you, Udar55 and Regice2020, willing to work together and hope to see more MAA editors do the same. Best. CASSIOPEIA(talk) 03:27, 18 February 2020 (UTC)

Discussion[edit]

@NEDOCHAN: @CASSIOPEIA: Ok. Regice2020 (talk) 04:05, 18 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@NEDOCHAN, Regice2020, and Udar55:, Hi Regice2020 not sure what you meant by "OK" here. Ok to set it up in one of the editor's sandbox or a "Work in Progress" sub page? or something else? Kindly elaborate a little bit. By the way, if you guys want to set up a "Work in Progress" sub page to work on MMA fighters/UFC events toward GA articles, then pls reply at WP talk:MMA-UFC244. Thank you. CASSIOPEIA(talk) 04:12, 18 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@NEDOCHAN: @CASSIOPEIA: These issues with minor grammar and sentence issues would be fixed at the very end before resubmitting GA. I was "raw" matching the GA Changes from UFC 148 including wording to UFC 244 without copyright violations. Let just see what need to be discussed soon. Regice2020 (talk) 04:05, 18 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Beside UFC 148 was last UFC event to be GA. That is very long time. Regice2020 (talk) 04:24, 18 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Regice2020: yes the ce can always done at the end before GA submission. My question was do you prefer to do in a sandbox or sub page (I will create the subpage)? CASSIOPEIA(talk) 04:43, 18 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@CASSIOPEIA: Neither, because there currently that dispute case on the dispute noticeboard still open. We have to wait for the direction form the moderator. Regice2020 (talk) 08:22, 18 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Regice2020: I understand. I meant when the dispute is closed, what is your preference? CASSIOPEIA(talk) 08:28, 18 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@NEDOCHAN: @CASSIOPEIA: As no one opposed the changes during that 2 weeks of slow heavy changes. It sorta too late to use sandbox and subpage. I think the best idea is to continue working on the main UFC 244 page because to honest the page like 80% to 85% done to be resubmitted now that NEDOCHAN corrected some things that i left for the end to fix. Again, i am matching what UFC 148 did. Regice2020 (talk) 00:54, 19 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Regice2020: A lot more to do - expansion on bouts info, pre/post event, background and etc. Will work on it on sand/sub page instead. CASSIOPEIA(talk) 14:45, 20 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, I can finally give some attention to this article this weekend. Question: What is the status of the attendance of President Trump. I know Regice2020 strongly opposes it, but it is actually probably the most notable thing about this event. I don't think it needs to be as big as previously, but it is something that warrants a mention. Thoughts? Udar55 (talk) 22:54, 21 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Udar55:, Pls see comment from reviewer on this page regarding the attendance of POUS. Currently I am working on the fight card section . I will work on the background (promotion would be one of the sub section ). If you find any source can be used in any of the section, pls place it on the top section (1&2) above. Use the talk page for discussions. CASSIOPEIA(talk) 02:18, 22 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@NEDOCHAN: @CASSIOPEIA: I was able to get copyright free image of a belt, but at bad quality. Commons reviewer approved. Regice2020 (talk) 03:36, 2 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Regice2020 Yes, I saw. Cheers. CASSIOPEIA(talk) 05:05, 2 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Proposal to revert to last stable version (Support or Oppose)[edit]

WP:RBK Made it pretty clear that UFC 244 is messed up now as @Udar55 and 29cwcst: stated above. Last stable version. Will look the other way. Regice2020 (talk) 06:58, 30 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • Support - I don't believe those updates to the article help it in any way. Gsfelipe94 (talk) 14:46, 30 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
