format question[edit]

What format should we use. Alphabetical by composer as it is right now, or grouped by composition type (see User:DavidRF/Sandbox). I could go either way. Looks like we had a couple of editors cleaning up at the same time come up with slightly different implementation of the same article. DavidRF (talk) 04:02, 22 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Looking at Piano_trio_repertoire it goes by surname. However articles like Organ_repertoire and Euphonium repertoire are more historical in nature. Q T C 04:13, 22 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
OK. Surname it is. DavidRF (talk) 04:18, 22 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I just changed it to category, a la your sandbox. Again, the category is the only helpful way to organize a list of this nature. It's the industry standard.Trumpetrep (talk) 18:22, 22 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
OK. I'll delete my sandbox now. Thanks. DavidRF (talk) 19:18, 22 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks again for setting it up.Trumpetrep (talk) 19:30, 22 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

More[edit]

Torelli, Tartini, Gottfried H. Stölzel, Albinoni, Benedetto Marcello, Domenico Cimarosa... DavidRF (talk) 04:49, 22 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Subpages[edit]

Is there a protocol on when to break things down into a subpage? For instance, when an artist's discography is so large that it is listed on a separate page, what's the tipping point?

This list is a tip of the iceberg, and I'm just curious as to when it should be broken out into subpages. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Trumpetrep (talkcontribs) 02:00, 25 March 2009 (UTC)Trumpetrep (talk) 02:16, 25 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

You have a ways to go. Its "only" 8500 bytes. The piano trio repertoire page is triple this size. You won't get warnings until you hit 30k or so. There's a lot of pieces that don't have articles, so at some point you focus on creating articles for famous pieces that don't already have one. DavidRF (talk) 03:29, 25 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Great Page[edit]

Wonderful list! Bravo to all that have contributed. Phembree (talk) 05:52, 28 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Columns & Sections[edit]

The page was recently reorganized in an unhelpful way, with the removal of columns and the addition of excessive subcategories like "Trumpet, Violin and Piano". Someone appears to be making a case for a separate page of chamber music for trumpet, and that seems reasonable. But the wholesale restructuring of the page should have been discussed first.

I'm regrouping the pieces into their original categories and reinstating the columns. If the person who redesigned the page would like to do so again, please discuss it first. Trumpetrep (talk) 00:43, 3 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Notable Composers[edit]

The page has grown to a point where I think it is wise to restrict it to notable composers with a Wikipedia article of their own. While I'm always grateful to learn of new repertoire through links that people post themselves, there's no reason to maintain them here now that the page has grown to such a formidable size.

The point of this page is to direct people to important pieces in the repertoire. Any objections to removing non-notable composers? Trumpetrep (talk) 01:13, 10 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

It's been 2 years since I posted this note. Any thoughts? Given the size of the page, and the number of non-notable composers on this list, I think it's time to trim the article a bit. Trumpetrep (talk) 17:32, 20 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
