I have never heard Town Car used to describe a compact car way, never, not in Europe, not in America. Please leave the redirect in tact. Thank you very mcuh. Gerdbrendel 07:22, 4 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Merged Town Car body into this article[edit]

Town Car body was a stub that looked expandable into a larger article. However, the name of the article was awkward and not in line with the naming of other car body styles. The best I could think of was to move the article to this title, but this redirect page was here already, so I merged it instead. There should be potential for expanding this article. Respectfully, SamBlob (talk) 01:17, 13 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Well, it seems to me that the contents of the article is all about Sedancas de ville and Coupés de ville etc and not about Town Cars which are simply limousines and Town Car body should be redirected to limousine and the other things re-instated where they should be as being quite distinctive - look at the photos. Am I wrong? Eddaido (talk) 09:21, 16 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
So town cars are simply limousines. Right. Please tell that to the Classic Car Club of America so they may change their glossary, which defines the term as it is here, i.e. being the same thing as a Sedanca de Ville.
As for "re-instating" the Sedanca de Ville article to what it was, according to its edit history, it was always a redirect, first to "Town car body" and then to this when I switched it to "Town car".

Oops, sorry, CCCA will know much better than I. But, they are concerned with Classics aren't they (and they can also set their own rule-book). I've been obliged to surrender on the proper usage of Marque, Shooting Brake, and others because I'm told (very loudly) the usage has changed and the current American usage prevails. What do you think about that with regard to Town Car? Hope you are enjoying this discussion as much as I am. Regards Eddaido (talk) 20:23, 16 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I have no idea what you know, and you can, without being far wrong, assume that I know nothing. CCCA, however, as an organization of enthusiasts that has been been interested in the subject more than fifty years, should have enough experience and knowledge within itself to produce an accurate and reliable glossary. Pierce Arrow town car
How would CCCA deal with this? description is said to be from the Pierce Arrow catalogue. Eddaido (talk) 20:49, 16 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
With the removable top over the driver's seat removed, it meets their definition quite well. Sincerely, SamBlob (talk) 22:06, 16 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
You reckon there's a joint there? I can't see it! Looks pretty permanent to me. Eddaido (talk) 22:11, 16 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
The roof over the driver does seem to be more substantial than I thought when I first saw it, and what I initially thought was a fringe turns out to be a beam. No matter. If you want to know how the CCCA would deal with it, why don't you ask them? Sincerely, SamBlob (talk) 01:43, 17 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Wha'? Me! I wouldn't dare. But I would like to get some of their more serious and knowledgeable members onto writing Wikipedia articles about their own cars. Eddaido (talk) 07:35, 17 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Move proposal[edit]

The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section. A summary of the conclusions reached follows.
No consensus reached; no participants in the discussion other than the proposer, who was against the move.

Based on the above comments, there appears to be dissent on the stated definition of "town car" and an appeal to move this article to Sedanca de Ville. Instead of further clogging a section noting what was essentially a move from Town car body to Town car, I here propose moving this article to Sedanca de Ville. Sincerely, SamBlob (talk) 01:43, 17 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Weak oppose — I am not convinced that the term "Sedanca de Ville" is either more notable or more "correct" than "Town car", and therefore does not merit a change from the current status. Sincerely, SamBlob (talk) 01:43, 17 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
