Move discussion in progress[edit]

There is a move discussion in progress on Talk:Torres which affects this page. Please participate on that page and not in this talk page section. Thank you. —RMCD bot 07:15, 9 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

the explorer[edit]

Yes, the chap whom Torres Straits, among other places, took their name from. Not heard of him? tsk| tsk|tsk|AptitudeDesign (talk) 08:21, 3 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Well known people?[edit]

Should not people like Fernando Torres have a place in this list? I typed torres, and this Disambiguation page opened. But I could not find his name. So, should not be there a section of well known people? (Since, commonly he is called Torres. That's the way most of the people related to football call the name.)

There are too many people with that name, so there is a separate list of people (linked from there) at Torres (surname), and Fernando is in that list. JohnCD (talk) 14:34, 4 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Antonio de Torres Jurado[edit]

Surely Antonio de Torres Jurado should be a bit more prominent? His instruments are just called Torres guitars. His name does occur at Torres (surname)#Performers and media figures, but he is no longer famous as a guitarist and was never a media figure. Andrewa (talk) 17:34, 27 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

This is a disambiguation page, and disambiguation pages are not about prominence, they're just technical devices to help users navigate through WP. If you're interested in the musician, you could include mentions of him in related articles, not in damb pages where it does not belong, like this one. --Jotamar (talk) 17:55, 27 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
The purpose of a disambiguation page is to guide readers to the information they want. IMO this one does this poorly at present. The section on Music is the very first, and lists Torres (musician) as its first entry, which is the name of the article on Mackenzie Scott. She is unlikely to be the person that searchers for Torres want to find under Music!
I think we can and should do better. Andrewa (talk) 18:17, 27 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
It just happens that in the case you mention Torres is not a surname, but a pseudonym, therefore it does not belong in Torres (surname). Perharps there should be a hatnote here to link to that page. --Jotamar (talk) 17:23, 28 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
