Name[edit]

‎I moved "Dallas tornado outbreak of April 1957" to this new name IAW Wikipedia:Naming conventions (events). --Rosiestep (talk) 22:55, 11 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I am moving this page to April 2–4, 1957 tornado outbreak sequence because it is bad in practice to name not just a tornado outbreak, but a tornado outbreak sequence after a single city. I had a similar discussion to this at Talk:April 26, 1991 tornado outbreak#Requested move where I used similar reasoning. Also, while "April 1957 Dallas tornado outbreak sequence" returns more Google search results than "April 2–4, 1957 tornado outbreak sequence," beyond the 25th page of results on the first search (the Dallas title), results are found to be substantially duplicated, something which does not apply when searching the latter title. The search results don't really matter because they aren't all going to be relevant anyway, but I am just bringing them up to show. I am going to be bold and move this article, but if anyone has any objections or desires clarification, just leave a message after this or on my talk page (or leave message here and a notification template on my talk page). Dustin (talk) 00:08, 20 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I might add that both of the highest-rated tornadoes of the day were neither in Dallas nor in the State of Texas at all, but were in Oklahoma. Dustin (talk) 00:11, 20 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Also, I wouldn't be too against changing it to exclude the 2–4 part, I was just trying to be consistent with other pages. Dustin (talk) 00:14, 20 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I was probably rushing; only post-1990 outbreaks actually include the specific days in their article titles. I will instead move it to Early-April 1957 tornado outbreak sequence. If anyone has any better ideas, please respond. Dustin (talk) 00:28, 20 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
