Requested move[edit]

The following discussion is an archived discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. No further edits should be made to this section.

The result of the move request was no consensus on whether the axe is the WP:PRIMARYUSAGE or not. -- Aervanath (talk) 11:33, 18 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Pretty much all of the articles listed here owe their name to the Tomahawk (axe) since it's the original use of the term. As such, I feel that Tomahawk should be used for the original (and probably still the main) use of the word and all others would be referenced on Tomahawk (disambiguation).--Flash176 (talk) 14:46, 11 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose - The BGM-109_Tomahawk article has slightly more page views compared to the number of views views for the Tomahawk (axe) article. It should be kept how it is, seeing as both of the articles generate about the same number of views. It would just inconvenience readers if it automatically redirected to the axe, when over half of them are looking for the missile. ƒingersonRoids 17:49, 11 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • To play the devil's advocate, one could argue that a move would only inconvenience half the users that are inconvenienced now. Add a link to the missile page in the header that would link be there to the disambig page and people going to that article would be no more put out than they currently are.
As an aside, I didn't know you could see how many views an article has had. Nice.--Flash176 (talk) 18:09, 11 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose As per WP:PRIMARYTOPIC, not "much more used than any other topic covered in Wikipedia". Tassedethe (talk) 07:57, 12 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support. The Tomahawk missile may get more page views, but that doesn't necessarily mean that people visiting that page would expect to find the missile when searching for "tomahawk". I can't speak for anyone else but myself, of course, but I would expect to find the original term at Tomahawk, with derived uses such as BGM-109 Tomahawk, Tomahawk (band), etc. linked to from the disambiguation page. A relevant example could be Harpoon, which is about the fishing instrument, as I would expect when searching for "harpoon". If I was looking for Harpoon, the missile, I would most likely search "harpoon missile", which would redirect me to Boeing Harpoon. If I did search for "harpoon", there's a hatnote at the top of the article with a link to Harpoon (disambiguation). As a comparison, the Harpoon article gets only slightly more page views than the Boeing Harpoon article (see Harpoon stats and Boeing Harpoon stats). Jafeluv (talk) 07:09, 14 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

There seems to be 3 choices being discussed here:-

  1. Do nothing.
  2. Tomahawk to Tomahawk (disambiguation), then BGM-109_Tomahawk to Tomahawk
  3. Tomahawk to Tomahawk (disambiguation), then Tomahawk (axe) to Tomahawk

No, we're not discussing moving the Tomahawk missile page. The BGM-109 Tomahawk is its proper name.--Flash176 (talk) 17:14, 16 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. Leave the dab page where it is. That is the correct choice. Vegaswikian (talk) 01:20, 17 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
