[1] has a Thurmaston UD, which was entirely annexed by Leicester in 1935. Which is a bit odd because the area now known as Thurmaston is outside the boundary. Probably the name only refers to the Thurmaston parish outside the city? Morwen - Talk 15:29, 10 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

You refer to this page alot [2] and it must be wrong. Thurmaston, the place I phsycally live, has big signs on the way in saying welcome to Thurmaston, there is a Thurmaston Shopping Centre, and Thurmaston Times. It's Parish Council and in the District of Charnwood. All this annex by Leicester stuff, yeah maybe there was some of Thurmaston swallowed up by the City but trust me it's the county and it very much exists, in fact I'm in it right now.

  • I believe the Thurmaston UD refers to Rushey Mead, which is indeed part of the city. There's also a lot of areas (southern Humberstone Lane, Barkbythorpe Road/Warren Avenue, The Roundway/Hill Rise) which people generally count as part of Thurmaston, even though they're technically under city council jurisdiction (and so part of Rushey Mead?) Just an opinion piece here, but the boundaries between Thurmaston and Rushey Mead are completely political in nature and make zero logical sense. They probably did back in 1976 but now, it's all one continous urbanized mass from the city centre, all the way up to the Asda roundabout. Next door neighbours on Hill Rise can be part of two completely different councils, i.e. a postcode lottery. The boundaries should be moved either south, to Troon Way (absorbing Rushey Mead into Charnwood, but with a clear divide from Leicester), or north to Asda roundabout (absorbing Thurmaston into the City)... Can anyone confirm the story about Dion Dublin playing for Thurmaston? Dryouknow 09:25, 9 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
