Most of the "military career' section is lifted directly from the Te Ara Encyclopedia article on McDonnell. See [1]. Te Ara has a Creative Commons license. I have sought comment at the copyright problems noticeboard. BlackCab (TALK) 00:14, 16 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • That site is published under CC-BY-NC, meaning non-commercial use only. Therefore it is not compatible with our license (CC-BY-SA) and should be removed as a copyright violation. CrowCaw 00:27, 16 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Crow, I was picking my way through the Wiki guides on plagiarism and CC licencing and still trying to work out what is permissible. So I should delete that section only? BlackCab (TALK) 00:34, 16 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, as you discover them, they should be deleted if there is no non-infringing material, and it cannot be re-written to remove the violation. Obviously re-writing is preferred to keep the information, but if it is too complex, or you are not sufficiently versed in the subject or copyediting in general, it should be removed and the vio noted in the edit summary. Thanks for keeping an eye out! CrowCaw 00:38, 16 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
It can be rewritten and I'll add it to my "To do" list. In the meantime I'll remove it. Thanks. BlackCab (TALK) 00:43, 16 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thomas McDonnell should probably be a disambiguation page[edit]

At this point, English Wikipedia has biographical articles on (chronologically):

Two of these are listed at MacDonnell (surname), none of these are especially prominent, and none of these are very helpful for search or navigation. According to WP:NOPRIMARYTOPIC, it's probably time for a knowledgeable editor (administrator?) to set up a disambiguation page specifically for Thomas McDonnell.

I'm also posting this at WT:WPNAMES. Further suggestions welcome. —173.68.139.31 (talk) 01:12, 9 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
