Untitled[edit]

Gill's support for McCarthy and opposition to the war were a minor part of his campaign, certainly not its raison d'etre, as was suggested by an earlier version of this entry. In the main, he represented the reform wing of the Hawaii Democratic party, which fought skirmishes against the Burns machine for much of the mid- to late-60s, mostly over local issues.

Family History[edit]

Until a recent edit, the "Personal Information" section of the article included the following information regarding Gill's ancestry:

Gill was the son of Thomas Gill (born in New York in 1870) and Lorin Johnston Tarr (born in Kansas in 1889), and the grandson of Dr. Charles Robert Gill (born in New York in 1821) and María Dolores Ponce de León (born in Cuba in 1834 to Cuban parents).[1][2][3][4][5]

I was not aware that Wikitree was not considered a reliable source for Wikipedia articles, even when the Wikitree entries were well researched and heavily footnoted.

I have located an unambiguously reliable source for the names of Gill's parents and paternal grandparents: The Story of Hawaii and Its Builders, with which is incorporated Volume III Men of Hawaii, a book published in 1925 by the Honolulu Star-Bulletin, Ltd. (https://evols.library.manoa.hawaii.edu/handle/10524/56596). I thus have added the information on Gill's parents and grandparents to the main article, with a citation to the 1925 compendium.
