Weird sentence removed[edit]

Quote: His method of assembling compositions is still renowned today by many classical guitarists and pianists for its complexity and unique stature.

If anyone can explain what this means, or translate it into the English language, I'd be happy to restore it. What did he have to do with the guitar, of all things? -- JackofOz (talk) 22:55, 3 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Spelling of his name[edit]

Quote: Teodor Leszetycki (mostly referred to by the germanised name used by himself Theodor Leschetizky ....

Comment: If Theodor Leschetizky is the most common way his name appears in refs, that's what the article should be called, under WP naming conventions. We make quite a point of spelling Sergei Rachmaninoff that way, because that was the spelling he himself preferred. Exactly the same philosophy should apply to Leschetizky. -- JackofOz (talk) 01:15, 22 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

No objections after a week? Good. I've moved the page and made the necessary changes to the article. -- JackofOz (talk) 08:49, 29 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
The example of Sergei Rachmaninoff does not apply here, there are many ways to transliterate Russian names, whereas Polish spelling rules are clearly laid out and since Teodor Leszetycki was Polish, those rules should be used. As for Theodor Leschetizky being more common in refs, that's because that part of Poland was under Austrian occupation at the time. That doesn't mean we should continue to use Austrian customs. Look at Wroclaw/Breslau and Gdansk/Danzig, the Polish name is used for the title of the Wikipedia articles.Msamj (talk) 03:41, 31 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I hear what you're saying, but the fact remains that, to the world at large, he was Theodor Leschetizky, not Teodor Leszetycki. WP rules also state that the most common name by which a subject is known should dictate how we name our article on that subject. -- JackofOz (talk) 09:22, 31 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I've removed the move template, as this isn't an open request. To anyone who would like to initiate a new move request to put the article at a different location, please feel free to do so. Dekimasuよ! 09:40, 31 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

User:Jo Hopkin's recent edits[edit]

Whatever their information value, their English language value is close to zero. The overall quality of this article is now considerably LESS than it was before said user made their contributions. I have to invoke WP:AGF to stop myself regarding these edits as vandalistic. If this is the standard of their general musicological writing, I shudder to think what is getting put about out there in academe.

Somebody has to make a start to restore the quality of this article; me, I'm too dispirited to tackle it right now. How sad. -- Jack of Oz ... speak! ... 12:41, 11 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Why doubt re date of death?[edit]

[1] - is there any reason to doubt he died on 14 November 1915? -- Jack of Oz ... speak! ... 11:21, 6 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Leschetizky the teacher[edit]

I edited numerous misspelled names, so many of those links are now actually working; however, a paragraph above already lists the most important students plus gives the link to the complete list, so IMHO this para could also go, but whatever. --WernR (talk) 08:29, 16 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
