Reason for closure?[edit]

The article doesn't explain why the Tote closed, or what these laws are that are being protested against, and what the laws have to do with it closing. 118.209.14.234 (talk) 07:39, 20 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I'll get to that. I'm only one person! Help me! :] Nick carson (talk) 20 January 2010 (UTC)

What of the rumour that although the LLC laws were forcing Milne & Co. to 'go broke', he used 'the ploy' of closing to generate a final income before his withdrawal from the business; and thus knew the business would also be sold-on for higher profits? However, it also appears he was still genuinely affected by the community groundswell. Please note that I do not believe this rumour and only voice it as a discussion piece. I have no mind either for or against this perspective and of course that is why I state the case here without any malicious intent whatsoever! 203.214.70.31 (talk) 02:57, 21 August 2011 (UTC)INFX.com.au[reply]

Now reopened[edit]

Looks like the Tote's reopened, according to their website anyway, but no information about it on this article. I'm not local and don't know the story, let alone where to look for citations, but hopefully someone will know where to find the relevant information. In the meantime I've added a stub section with a link to their website, which shows that at least they're operating right now (Feb 2011). --Skud (talk) 21:54, 5 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Bruce's fate?[edit]

I agree, needs some input from somebody in the know. Perhaps Amanda who handles the newsletter for the Tote might be a good person to ask to do this? I will email her if nobody else does. But one major point that seems to get lost is that the place is under new owners, though they seem to fully respect the role of the Tote. This leaves Bruce, the poor previous owner, as something of a lost figure - he had to sell his extensive record collection to cover a lot of his debts, very sad. Then he seems to have sunk into obscurity. It would be nice to mention him a little more and know what became of the man. I am presuming this is he? - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bruce_Milne 118.209.83.136 (talk) 05:14, 26 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Date of construction[edit]

I have altered the article to state that it was probably built in 1870 and renovated in 1940. I am an architectural historian and going through the references, its clear that Healy built a substantial building in 1870, and the current building is pretty typical of a 19thC pub, without much elaboration, which would be typical of something built before the 1880s. The corner door and even the pretty small windows either side of it are also typical of a 19thC pub. I couldn't see any evidence of complete rebuilding, the Collingwood Historical Society just say 'renovated interwar', so the renovations that might have happened in 1940 could be the date of those changes - the external tiles and simplified parapet are pretty typical of interwar renovations, so prob done then. So its an 1870 pub ! mostly. Rohanstorey (talk) 01:43, 6 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
