Downbeat had an article about an incident on a plane during a tour of the Mahavishnu Orchestra Mk. I which also put the kibosh on the release of the studio album. When I have time I will further edit the article to reflect that. Basically it told of Jan Hammer and Billy Cobham telling a music press journalist of their frustrations with McLaughlin's insistance on writing all the material (and therefore royalties the other band members weren't getting), etc. When McLaughlin found out, he became angry, and the MO's Mk I days were numbered. Goodman was more or less in Hammer's camp, but Laird remained neutral. HammerFilmFan (talk) 23:41, 1 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Hadn't read the booklet with the CD recently - noticed that a summary of the Downbeat story is referred to in it.HammerFilmFan (talk) 18:39, 2 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
