Target[edit]

This page should go straight to Dostoevsky's novel. "The Idiot" doesn't mean "idiot", it means the phrase, "the idiot".

The IdiotThe Idiot (disambiguation) — Per discussion at Talk:Idiot. The primary meaning of "The Idiot" is the Dostoevsky novel, and the current page should be an explicitly-named dab page. Tevildo (talk) 21:46, 29 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose there is no discussion at Talk:Idiot that establishes that as the primary meaning, only offhanded comments. Personally, I think of Lars Von Trier's film and Akira Kurosawa's film first. 76.66.197.17 (talk) 04:37, 30 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support: clear primary topic, the only other page titled "The Idiot" to get a substantial amount of views is the Iggy Pop album (I left out the von Trier film as that's not disambiguated). Sceptre (talk) 18:01, 31 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • The nom will need to point out the discussion at Talk:Idiot to which he refers, as I don't see it. Either way, though, I agree that the Dostoevsky novel is the primary target. ÷seresin 09:49, 2 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support. The Lars von Trier film is already at its title The Idiots, so there's no naming conflict with that. The Kurosawa film gets one-tenth the pageviews of the novel. I'm somewhat surprised the Iggy Pop album gets so many views, and perhaps deserves a mention in a hatnote if this is moved, but the novel still seems to be the primary topic. • Support. Primary use of the term—part of the Western Canon. Already discussed during the move of Idiot. — The Man in Question (in question) 01:14, 3 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support - Dostoevsky's novel is most likely to be the primary target. stats.grok.se tool seems to support this. --Jubilee♫clipman 03:08, 5 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
