The Diplomat (British TV series) → ?

– These titles are ambiguous, as The Diplomat (American TV series) is primarily set in the UK, and so many readers may think that The Diplomat (British TV series) is the Netflix series (I made that mistake when searching for the Netflix series). We shouldn't expect readers to know this confusing, nuanced difference between these 2 series, a better disambiguation is needed, with The Diplomat (British TV series) then redirecting to Diplomat (disambiguation)#Fiction, film and television as a {{R from incomplete disambiguation}}. Oppose I think it'll be clear to most people that this series is the American one, since it was produced by Americans for Netflix, and the British one was produced by the BBC. But if anyone mistakenly goes to the wrong one, the hatnote has a quick explanation and a link. It's not ideal, but there were two television political thrillers of the same name in the same year. Comment: The fact two shows were released the same year under the exact same name requires an explanation - by our articles. Hatnotes are meant for more administrative cases, and aren't suitable to carry the entire explanatory load for this exceptional case. I have added this to the lead of both articles. The information needs to be in the lead (above the table of contents) for the information to be useful to the reader, and truly complement the hatnote's function. We should not solely rely on a hatnote, which many readers expect to appear for administrative purposes only. But this isn't a commonly encountered case of disambiguation - readers will be surprised by the fact there are two identically-named shows released in the same year and genre, which merits not relying solely on the hatnote, but to specifically address the issue in the proper article text (lead).
