So is this series really over? -User:KinseyLOL

Yes, the series is unfortunately over :(

Why did it end?[edit]

Does anyone know why the series ended? Was it just because of falling sales numbers? If so, was the FF series just an attempt to bring in more mature readers? SKS2K6 07:17, 22 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I think it was because the plots got significantly worse since the mid-90's. KinseyLOL 14:58, 29 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Possibly also because the original readers were preteens when the series started, and we were into adulthood when it concluded. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 120.17.122.75 (talk) 22:39, 4 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Comments[edit]

The Baby-sitters Club series spanned 131 books - add around 36 mysteries, 15 Super Specials, 4 Super Mysteries, several special editions like the Complete Guide, 12 Friends Forever books, and 2 Friends Forever specials. That's not all of them if you count The Kids in Ms. Colman's Class or Babysitter's Little Sister. And Ann and her editors had to think of plots for all of those.
I didn't like the Friends Forever series as much as the regular because of all the old members dropping out, and because it focused more on the characters' lives, with practically no baby-sitting jobs in between. I don't know why it ended - this year, 2014, marks the Babysitters Club 20th anniversary (the girls are now 41 or, in Mal and Jessi's case, 39) - but it had been going for fourteen years by the time it ended.
Much agreed with this last comment. At the time, I couldn't see myself ever stopping reading them, but then she "reinvented" the series as Friends Forever and I had no problem breaking my addiction. It was a sad time. AffirmationChick 05:57, 20 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
In 1986, the girls were twelve. Now they're 39-41, because of the birthday.

Clearly, the Friends Forever Series ended the BSC-for good.

Maybe there should be a trivia section in this article. Somebody had added something about the Perkinses being based on Ann's real-life friend, but there was no citation or section devoted to that. Skankage (talk) 19:44, 6 June 2008 (UTC)skankageSkankage (talk) 19:44, 6 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

California Diaries[edit]

When were these books written? ShadowWriter 22:02, 17 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I believe they were written after Ann was done with the BSC books, but I'm not certain.
The first book in this series was written in 1997, so the BSC books were falling in their popularity but not over yet. The last one was published in the latter part of 2000. I think they were intended to "catch" readers who considered themselves too old for BSC books any longer. However, I remember reading it right after it came out and thinking that it was far too much of a jump in maturity. Having been used to BSC books, these books were quite shocking! This is far beyond what your question was, though ;) AffirmationChick 05:55, 20 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Disambiguation Page[edit]

I think that this page should be added to the BSC page, after all, it's a known abbreviation to Baby-sitters Club fans. Thoughts? (chicken queen 00:58, 26 January 2007 (UTC))[reply]

Ghostwriter[edit]

I changed the Wikipedia link on the word "ghostwritten" in the intro so that it links to "ghostwriter" (explaining what a ghostwriter is, not the television show) instead of where it linked previously (a title of a book called Ghostwritten). Fieryrogue 23:34, 23 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Babysittersbookcoverset.jpg[edit]

Image:Babysittersbookcoverset.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 00:32, 1 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Mallory and Jessi, also, a question about Mal[edit]

I noticed in the usual books, there are eight narrarators in total. Am I the only one who noticed Mal and Jessi have less then anyone? (Except Abby, with 3 books, but she's way newer, she doesn't count.) Why do they have less? And why did Mal leave? I know she was irritated, but why'd Ann write that to Mal, instead of the thirteen year olds with plenty of books to spare? (Also, I can list Mal's books from her first to at least 100, about. 14-21-29-39-47-59-68-80. Does it sound like she likes Mallory?)

Mal and Jessi were the junior members, and didn't come intoe ethe series until 14# Hello Mallory. I assume Mal was written out because there were very few ways they could expand her character. We rarely see what Mal writes. Also, her negative attitude, particularly towards her family, may have meant that Mal's books didn't sell as well as some of the others. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 120.17.122.75 (talk) 22:44, 4 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

My guess is that Ann also didn't really like Mallory, given when asked "where would the Baby-sitters be now" she had "no feelings" on her while could elaborate on the others. Other readers have commented Mallory often got the bum wrap in plots wasn't portrayed positively. --Kbbbb (talk) 12:37, 29 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Structure of books?[edit]

The section on the general structure of the books seems to be missing chapter 8.

   * Chapter 3-4; 6-7; 10-12: Continuation of the main plot
   * Chapters 5, 9, & 13: Sitting experiences of members

Today[edit]

I think it's interesting that it still has fans. There's still fanfiction and blogs and livejournal communities about it.

Fan Fiction[edit]

Does anyone know where to find good BSC fanfics? Especially romances, but not slash? The internet is devoid of good BSC fanfics; fanfiction.net is really suckish. So, any suggestions? 71.72.129.4 (talk) 00:13, 10 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Baby-sitting charges[edit]

What, no mention of Daffodil and Clover? Also, this:http://shelf-life.ew.com/2010/04/02/a-night-with-the-creator-of-the-baby-sitters-club-ann-m-martin/ 24.189.90.68 (talk) 22:40, 3 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Removal of content[edit]

http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=The_Baby-sitters_Club&action=historysubmit&diff=280472209&oldid=279396814

That page will show that there was a statement about the majority of the series being ghostwritten. It was removed, despite there being ample sources. There was no discussion about it's removal, it was just taken out. I'm putting it back in. If anybody has an objection, please discuss it here.75.223.142.94 (talk) 00:52, 10 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Questions about ghostwriters and others[edit]

Ghostwriters are acknowledged at the beginning of BSC books, and I’ve found a list of them here, and I’d like to ask a few questions. Should we list the ghostwriters—and the illustrators, like Joel Iskowitz—here and/or next to the books in List of The Baby-sitters Club novels and List of The Baby-sitters Little Sister novels? And should we add Jeanne Betancourt, Gabrielle Charbonnet, Ellen Miles, and Suzanne Weyn to Category:The Baby-Sitters Club, if Peter Lerangis is already there? What about Raina Telgemeier or David Levithan? Thanks in advance! --Kletta (talk) 21:37, 21 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

And it seems that the article Jahnna N. Malcolm is also about BSC ghostwriters. --Kletta (talk) 23:49, 11 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Now I read Jump Rope Rhymes in the Baby-sitters Little Sister series, and saw that Nancy E. Krulik helped write it. --Kletta (talk) 19:57, 20 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Can't upload stills from CD-Rom[edit]

I've added a section about BSC software, but Wikipedia refuses to let me allow any fair use stills inside the game. I did try. --Kbbbb (talk) 12:39, 29 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Audio adaptations[edit]

The Baby-Sitters Club Wiki has an article titled Audio Books on Cassette Tape. From its pictures of j-cards, it seems these were adaptations with many actors in each audiobook, some of whom have Wikipedia articles. I guess Nicole Leach, who played Jessi in the TV series, also voiced her in Mary Anne and Camp BSC and Farewell, Dawn, but maybe the Megan Andrews who voiced Kristy isn’t the same person as the Meghan Andrews who played Mallory in the TV series? --Kletta (talk) 16:29, 3 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
