Why is this divided into corporate vs. non-corporate businesses? That seems inherently ideological. I would suggest simply separating them into more useful categories or alphabetizing. (Cfassett 17:14, 22 January 2007 (UTC))[reply]

Reflective of the ideology Thayer Street was known for more so than an instance of POV editing. It should be sourced better, but I can tell you what the editor probably intended, anyway: Thayer Street was always known for its independent, quirky businesses and was known as a sort of counterculture hotspot for that reason -- and because of its proximity to RISD. The replacement of those kinds of businesses with national chains has notably eroded that reputation, making it one of many busy shopping streets in Providence -- and one which has become noteworthy more for its crime problems. I'm fairly sure I remember seeing articles about these aspects of Thayer Street Providence Phoenix, Providence Journal, and in particular the smaller indie newspapers/websites in the area. No, I don't have sources available though so you'd be justified in removing the text. --Rhododendrites (talk) 00:33, 22 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Who was Thayer street named after? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 190.53.72.57 (talk) 06:38, 21 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

"Records indicate that Thayer Street was first designated as Cross Street in 1799, and later named after Dr. Williams Thayer in 1823." [1]. Kzirkel (talk) 18:13, 14 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
