Louis Couperus and Tegal.[edit]

The famous Dutch writer, Louis Couperus,travelled to Tegal in June 1899, to visit his sister Trudy.

Her husband Gerard Vallette was Resident there at the time. His important novel "De stille kracht" is mainly set here.The novel is in the first place the story about the hatress of the uppressed indonesian population against there uppressors, the Dutch.
