Are we not able to get his congressional photo for the infobox? Guyb123321 (talk) 19:14, 1 February 2015 (UTC)

"Russia's government-controlled news agency Sputnik" reads like poorly written propaganda

In the section labeled "Tenure", this paragraph appears:

On May 10, 2017, Lieu tweeted: "Our 11 year old just asked me if President Trump was part Russian. That would be really funny if it wasn't so really scary."[33][34] In response, Russia's government-controlled news agency Sputnik accused Lieu of inciting "Russophobic hysteria".[34]

Would any article use an adjective like "government-controlled" when referring to the NPR or the BBC? Son of eugene (talk) 05:04, 23 May 2019 (UTC)

I think it's a reasonable description when Rossiya Segodnya, which launched the Sputnik brand in 2014, was described by the Moscow Times as a state-run news agency funded with 6.48 billion rubles from the Russian government. OtherDave (talk)

House Leadership

Photo at California Assembly section removed

I did a double-take on finding a photograph (added as of 12:31, 19 January 2019), captioned as "Governor Mark Warner meets with California House Speaker Fabian Nunez and Assembly Member Ted Lieu, 8 May 2006". Mark Warner was never governor of California, as implied by this caption. In fact on that date he was no longer governor of Virginia, having left office on January 14, 2006. Although this photo does not presently appear on Warner's WP page, it appears to be one of a series of similar photos taken of Warner with other people, primarily for publicity purposes. The original photo ID caption misspells Lieu's name as "Tedd", corrected and with further identification added for both Nunez and Lieu for posting here.

In considering whether and how to reword the caption, I've decided instead that it's better to simply remove the photo entirely. Of three people sitting at a table, only Warner is shown relatively clearly. Nunez has his back to the camera, and Lieu is largely obscured, both by sitting behind Warner, and his area of the photo being darker than the foreground. I feel this photo adds nothing useful to the article on Ted Lieu. Others, such as the OP, may disagree; but if it's re-posted the caption really does need to be fixed. Personal Life

Currently, Lieu's page states that "Lieu is known for rebutting Donald Trump's tweets on his personal account, @tedlieu. "I just decided that if Donald Trump was going to say 27 crazy, misleading things a week, I am going to point out that he said 27 crazy, misleading things, and to not allow him to get away with it."

Given that Trump's Twitter account is permanently suspended, is this sentence even relevant anymore? I vote that it be removed, replaced, or updated. Before I remove the sentence entirely, I wanted to give a chance for any opposing views/arguments. TrueQuantum (talk) 19:39, 6 June 2021 (UTC)

We're an encyclopedia, not a newspaper. So. if we determine that Lieu's Twitter responses to Trump's tweets are historically relevant for Lieu's biography, then we don't remove the info. We just need to update it for historical context. If we don't think it is an essential, lasting portion of his bio, then it doesn't belong. I think it does belong personally. – Muboshgu (talk) 20:16, 6 June 2021 (UTC)
I of course agree with you that that Wikipedia is an encyclopedia not a newspaper. Where I disagree with you is whether Lieu's responses to Trump's tweets are historically relevant for his biography. It's a minor footnote if anything compared to everything else covering Lieu's political activities as a Congressman. TrueQuantum (talk) 21:03, 6 June 2021 (UTC)
I went ahead and just updated the sentence to reflect the significant changes that have occurred regarding Trump's Twitter account, such as the permanent suspension.TrueQuantum (talk) 17:36, 10 June 2021 (UTC)
