Tone[edit]

The article is tagged as having an unsuitable tone and links to the talk page, but the page had just a comments section, which is empty. What is the issue with tone? Autarch (talk) 13:32, 5 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Move?[edit]

The following discussion is an archived discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. No further edits should be made to this section.

The result of the move request was moved. There is no reason to disambiguate if there are no other articles with these names. The lead sentences of these articles should clearly state that these streets are in Dublin, Ireland. That should be sufficient to remove any possible confusion with other non-notable streets of the same name. -- Aervanath (talk) 20:55, 9 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Moves needed to undo preemptive disambiguation per WP:DAB. All of these targets link to the designated articles and there are no other Wikipedia articles on streets of the same name. — AjaxSmack 03:22, 30 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I'm uneasy about this but I can't put my finger on why. I guess it's something to do with people typing in "their" Herbert Road or Newbridge Avenue then getting Dublin's. But that is rather a weak argument, really (since the straight pages redirect anyway). Oddly the one that worries me most is Grafton Street, which is the one that Dublin probably has more of a "right" to than any other town/city. Really I don't have a leg to stand on but for streets not particularly well known outside of Dublin, or Ireland, perhaps I just feel it is giving them undue weight. Weak support (do we do that here? I forget.) but just wanted to put that down in case it gives anyone else something to go on, if only to refute.
Either way I'd definitely bring Newbridge Ave into the general pattern. SimonTrew (talk) 13:01, 30 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support as nominator. There is no reason to disambiguate. The links already redirect to the pages anyway and there are no other Wikipedia articles on streets of the same name. No other unambiguously named streets of Dublin use disambiguators. Several of these streets are quite notable (e.g., Grafton) and if you check Google (depending on where you are) you get almost exclusively hits for the Dublin streets for several others (Pearse, Tara, Georges Quay). — AjaxSmack 02:33, 1 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose some I believe Newbridge Avenue is excessively generic, and should keep its city name. 76.66.202.139 (talk) 04:41, 6 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Newbridge Avenue currently redirects to Newbridge Avenue, Dublin. By leaving that article at the unnecessarily disambiguated Newbridge Avenue, Dublin we falsely imply there is another article in Wikipedia for which the topic name is also "Newbridge Avenue". Unless there are other uses for that name -- in which case Newbridge Avenue should be a dab page, or there should at least be a hat note redirect to another use or to Newbridge Avenue (disambiguation) at the top of Newbridge Avenue -- then the one and only WP article with that name should be at that name. The fact that there may be other uses of that name outside of WP is irrelevant. --Born2cycle (talk) 01:56, 7 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. These street names are duplicated on other towns etc, and (for example) in page Newbridge Avenue, Dublin the reader must read through the text a distance before he sees the word "Dublin", and the word "Ireland" never occurs. The word "Dublin" in the page name, shows in very big boldface at the top of the page quite clearly at the start to readers in other towns that it does not mean his own town's Newbridge Avenue or whatever, but that in Dublin.
