REDIRECT[edit]

The redirect on "Tagore" has been altered to Debendranath Tagore in place of Rabindranath Tagore.

Do a google search with "Tagore", and see who comes up more, Debendranath or Rabindranath. It's of course Rabindranath. Outside India, Rabindranath is often known as "Tagore". So, the change of redirect from Rabindranath Tagore to Debendranath Tagore is not rational. Regards.--Dwaipayan (talk) 03:11, 13 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Encyclopedias are not defined by Google searches. It is defined by Notability and consensus. This is a serious matter of faith. If we were discussing (say) Christianity in my view "God the Father" is more notable than his alleged and Google famous Son (Jesus Christ). In any case Debendranath had many children - equally, if not better, satisfying Wikipedia notability norms than RNT. The fact that DNT's article is pathetic and unencyclopedic is being addressed now. Hopefully a proper redirection will bring out the superior notability of DNT for Wiki purposes. PS: If you research the faith that DNT defined, it is all about "rationalism" unlike RNT who drifted into "mysticism". Sroy1947 (talk) 05:21, 13 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
"Debendranath had many children - equally, if not better, satisfying Wikipedia notability norms than RNT"!!! None of the Tagore family is as notable/famous/well-known as Rabindranath Tagore. If we measure by their literary creations, impact on society, world-wide notabilty, awards etc, RNT is defenitely the most notable one.
The bad condition of teh Debendranath (or, any other article) has nothing to do with the notabilty.
For example, there are many Gandhis, quite notable (such as Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi and more). However, Gandhi redirectes to Mahatma gandhi, as he is the most notable, and, by Gandhi, people usually mean Mahatma Gandhi.--Dwaipayan (talk) 17:02, 13 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Coren search bot notification is an error[edit]

The Coren search bot notification is an error. This article is just newly created from the the article Tagore, which is now a redirect page to Rabindranath Tagore, and which had the same text for several years. This is a disambiguation list. The external website mentioned (http://www.enotes.com/topic/Tagore) is actually copied from wikipedia. Regards.--Dwaipayan (talk) 00:22, 3 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I have made a dummy edit (almost) --Tito Dutta 01:25, 3 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Well, actually the "Tagore" article contained the whole text of "Tagore (family)"; however, "Tagore" should be a redirect to Rabindranath Tagore, the person who is widely known as "Tagore". That's what I did. Then, there should be a disambiguation page listing all other person (or things) bearing the name Tagore. That is done in "Tagore (name)" by copying the content of the previous "Tagore" article (which, now, is a mere redirect). Tagore family is a wholly separate article that not only lists the people of the family, but discusses their achievement. Of course I was not the sole contributor to the previous "Tagore" article, although I might have edited it months earlier.--Dwaipayan (talk) 01:41, 3 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, then it's a disambiguation page? Alright that answers second question– why not "Tagore Family". There are multiple minor errors per Dab MoS. I'll fix those! And since I have given attribution in edit summary (attribution is not necessary if you were sole contributor of the article, if you were you can remove the template now), I don't think there is any other problem now! --Tito Dutta 01:56, 3 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I have made some changes --Tito Dutta 02:06, 3 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, should have told the attribution in the first edit summary. --Dwaipayan (talk) 02:13, 3 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Unfortunately cut-and-paste moves like that] are forbidden, as they break attribution as described above. I've history merged both the current article and talk pages with the old "Tagore" page. If you had moved the "Tagore" page to "Tagore (name)" using the normal page move function, then changed the redirect at "Tagore" to point to Rabindranath Tagore, none of the problems with false copyvio detection would have happened. By the way, I discovered this problem after reading this beautiful post on the Wikimedia Blog. Graham87 15:56, 27 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
