Incorrect Place of Birth

Suresh Raina's last name is definitely Kashmiri, but he is most probably not a "first generation Kashmiri".We indians love him the most:*.Suresh raina is the first indian batsman to score century in all the formats. Perhaps his ancestors migrated centuries ago from Kashmir, and he may not even be ethnically 100% Kashmiri. He may not speak Kashmiri. He may not be born in Rainawari, Kashmir, although his ancestors may hail from there. This should be checked and corrected. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Rk kaul (talkcontribs) 12:26, 4 April 2011 (UTC)

Please change the name of Suresh Kumar Raina to Suresh Raina Artkonnect (talk) 13:28, 1 June 2020 (UTC)

Not done. Why? –Deacon Vorbis (carbon • videos) 15:06, 1 June 2020 (UTC)
His fullname is well sourced by [1], so we're just following what reliable sources say his name is. Joseph2302 (talk) 08:22, 15 June 2020 (UTC)

That's not his full name. He does not have 'Kumar' anywhere in public or personal life. His father is Trilokchand Raina and neither he or any of his brothers use Kumar in their name. Being of Kashmiri descent, there is no precedent of Kumar being used in Kashmiri names either. All his social media handles, website and sports information pages have Suresh Raina as the name. So this information is factually incorrect.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Anandkanwar007 (talkcontribs)

Then you will need to speak to the sources that use the name we use, or offer independent reliable sources that use the name you state. We can't just take your word for it. 331dot (talk) 09:50, 15 June 2020 (UTC)

sure point taken, external source can be the chennai super kings team https://www.chennaisuperkings.com/CSK_WEB/module/news/html/team-page.html or many of the other cricketing websites or better still would his pan card work whoch states his full name.

Also be mindful of WP:COMMONNAME; we don't necessarily use legal or official names. 331dot (talk) 14:15, 15 June 2020 (UTC)

full name is suresh raina and not suresh kumar raina. please change suresh kumar raina to suresh raina. i can provide you with a passport copy to support my claim. i can also provide a court attested affidavit from suresh rain to support this claim. Ahuja.chandan (talk) 08:52, 16 June 2020 (UTC)

Ahuja.chandan Please see the discussion above about this matter. Do NOT send anyone copies of personal identity documents or other legal documents; Wikipedia goes by what independent reliable sources state. How is it that you have access to this person's passport? 331dot (talk) 08:54, 16 June 2020 (UTC)

Suresh Raina is a friend and he is personally interested in getting the name changed. I have gone through discussions on this matter. It is surprising when you claim that Wikipedia goes by independent reliable sources but fails to even acknowledge the original source.

Ahuja.chandan Wikipedia strives to have a neutral point of view, and the subject themselves is not always neutral with regards to themselves. Many celebrities, especially women, are not truthful in public about their ages, as it could harm their career. This is why Wikipedia primarily should use independent reliable sources. This player's name as it is now in this article is supported with independent sources. If those sources are incorrect, you will need to speak to them to issue corrections. Wikipedia also does not necessarily use legal or official names per WP:COMMONNAME.
Since you state you are helping out this player, you should review conflict of interest. 331dot (talk) 09:21, 16 June 2020 (UTC)

Can you please provide us with your source of this information— Preceding unsigned comment added by Ahuja.chandan (talkcontribs)

Us is me and others who raised this point/issue before I did.

Should be more info

There is no where written about his fielding Which is an important part of his career that give him world recognistaion The second line should be written short If you want more edit to this article please go on my talk page Ripomobo11 (talk) 06:10, 20 March 2022 (UTC)

In the section "Indian Premier League" the first line is "Raina was awarded "best fielder" by the BCCI ahead of the finals of IPL 2010", with a reliable source.
In the section "International career", the first line is "Raina was one of the few best fielders during his time with Indian team. He played in middle order.", with a reliable source.
What more needs to be said? Storchy (talk) 07:26, 20 March 2022 (UTC)

It is about franchise cricket. It should be more highlighted In first few lines so any person who search about him can easily able to know what he is known for Ripomobo11 (talk) 09:39, 20 March 2022 (UTC)

OK, and what do you propose to add to the lead section about his fielding? Storchy (talk) 09:46, 20 March 2022 (UTC)

Just have to add words in first paragraph like, one of the greatest fielder or well regarded fielder or best fielder that straight away help people to know what he is mainly known for who not wanted to read whole paragraph and yes in first line it should be written former captain because doing captaincy is such a big job either 1 match or 100 matches. So stand in captain doesn't make sense or if you not wanted such, it can be written as former occasional / stand in captain Ripomobo11 (talk) 12:47, 20 March 2022 (UTC)

"The greatest", "one of the greatest", "one of the best", no, wording like that will just get reverted by many editors, as you know. Instead, how about adding to the lead section: "He was awarded "best fielder" by the BCCI ahead of the finals of IPL 2010", and "He played in middle order." That's not opinion, that's fact, with reliable sources already in the article.
This is an encyclopaedia, so we have to stick to facts. We could also write "Commentator X said that Raina was the best fielder." That's a fact too: someone said something. We can't just put in our opinion, and then try to source it by some blogger or journalist who agrees with our opinion. Storchy (talk) 17:00, 20 March 2022 (UTC)
