Krypto[edit]

@Trailblazer101: This seems to be the source, an interview with the Toronto Sun. The exchange was as follows: (Interviewer): How did you make peace with saying goodbye?

  • Gunn: "I'm not a person who is comfortable saying goodbye … I can't do it."
  • Pratt: "We don't have to say goodbye."
  • Gunn: "I'm going to cry."
  • Pratt: "Are you crying? The frequency with which we spend time together is inevitably going to go down because he's going to go to do movies and I'm going to make movies and when we're not doing that we're going to go back to our families. But we will make time for each other and we'll talk a lot. We'll always be friends. We still have a long life ahead of us so maybe we'll work together again. But for now there's a finality to this trilogy."
  • Gunn: "I was hoping I could cast you as Krypto the Superdog (in Superman Legacy). You could do motion capture on set and walk around on your hands and knees, but you can't talk.
  • Pratt: "I'll do Krypto but you have to pay me in crypto."
  • Gunn: "I'll pay you in crypto, which amounts to zero dollars." [laughs]
  • Pratt: "It sounds like there’s going to be a character called Krypto in Superman — breaking news."

(Interviewer): That's a scoop for me.

  • Gunn: "It is a scoop, I guess."
  • Pratt: "Way to go. You're fired. Back to Marvel." [laughs]

If you ask me, I also think this sounds like a joke, as @JDDJS. Gunn jokingly says he wants to cast Pratt as Krypto in order to keep seeing each other and not have to say goodbye. None of the most serious trades consider this a confirmation of any kind either, only the more clickbait-oriented sites. —El Millo (talk) 23:53, 28 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Obviously they were joking in some parts of there exchange, although during Gunn's recent interview with Michael Rosenbaum, he had this to say via this article covering it: When Rosenbaum shifted the conversation back to Superman and "Legacy," things kicked off with some smiles and some interesting silences regarding the topic of whether or not Krypto would be in the film before Gunn shared how an interview he did with Pratt put that "spoiler" out into the open. In the embedded interview at 1:06:26, they talk about Krypto and Gunn says he and Pratt were talking about Krypto in a interview and I said that he could play Krypto [...] Chris says "oh, now we're saying Krypto's in the movie. That's a scoop". Watching their interaction, it seems it was a joke during that interview, although Gunn was coy about it at first when asked by Rosenbaum and says there is a dog named Krypto in the comics, yeah.
Just to note, Gunn's remarks were attributed by Screen Rant as more than a joke and a confirmation But when it became evident that Gunn wasn't kidding about the iconic Superpet appearing in the new reboot, the director clarified that Krypto is indeed appearing in Superman: Legacy. ComicBook.com took it as a confirmation, as did GamesRadar/Total Film, so to say only the more clickbait-oriented sites called it a confirmation is false.
Also, in an April Rolling Stone interview, there was this exchange teasing Krypto: That said, does his success with Rocket make him more interested in possibly taking a chance on the first live-action cinematic version of Superman’s pet, Krypto the Superdog? He laughs. “I think I would have an interest in a live-action Krypto whether or not I had anything to do with Rocket,” he says. Sources seem at odds on whether this was an explicit confirmation in multiple instances. I don't find it to be something worth butting heads over, and we can easily hide the information until it becomes more clear. Trailblazer101 (talk) 00:50, 29 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, let's hide it then until it becomes clearer. —El Millo (talk) 01:14, 29 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I have unhidden this info but updated the wording to say that Krypto could appear in the film, since there is enough evidence to support that. I left him hidden in the cast section, I just realised that we don't usually hide the suggestion of a key character being included like this even if they don't end up appearing. - adamstom97 (talk) 21:43, 1 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

stylized as SUPERMAN?[edit]

I'd hazard a guess until the official logo comes out, we won't put that it's stylized in capital letters? I'm just going off of how James Gunn framed it on his Instagram post. 2600:6C5D:0:A41:D79:7CA1:A2DA:96FE (talk) 22:56, 1 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

It's hard to tell, unless he clarifies, whether he means that the title is in all caps or if he just did that for the announcement. - adamstom97 (talk) 23:18, 1 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Adamstom.97 gotcha, no worries. just thought I'd ask about it. 2600:6C5D:0:A41:80A0:5FD9:C10D:D310 (talk) 20:58, 2 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
That's generally not a relevant stylization, as it's usually fairly standard for titles to be in all caps in logos and posters. Relevant stylizations are signficantly different from the regular title, for example Fantastic Four stylized as FANT4STIC. —El Millo (talk) 21:03, 2 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'm erring on the side of caution and calling this more of a stylistic preference for Gunn on his socials rather than how the title would be stylized on say a poster or website (which typically are all-caps anyways and not really worth noting in this instance). Trailblazer101 (talk) 21:06, 2 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Trailblazer101 Again, no worries, I just thought I'd ask. thanks you guys 2600:6C5D:0:A41:F545:BB2:6108:10CF (talk) 20:48, 3 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Reboot[edit]

There are no sources that claim this film is a "remake" nor a "reimagining" of the 1978 film. It is a straight reboot.

And there are far more out there. This is a reboot. ThaddeusSholto (talk) 15:42, 3 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

It is clear that this is a reboot, it looks to me that only one editor has decided that it is a remake based on the new title. But that isn't how that works. - adamstom97 (talk) 11:18, 4 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Superman: Legacy[edit]

Given that the Legacy subtitle was removed from the film's title, should it also be removed from the production section; having all instances of Legacy replaced with just Superman or the film/movie? PanagiotisZois (talk) 12:39, 4 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

It was known as Superman: Legacy for most of its development and pre-production. We're not going to rewrite history and remove those instances. Trailblazer101 (talk) 16:10, 4 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
OK... so if the film changes title again and becomes The Man of Steel, those 8 instances where Legacy is used as the film's title in the "Pre-production" section will remain intact? That won't be confusing at all. --PanagiotisZois (talk) 16:18, 4 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
We already note it was titled Superman: Legacy in the lead of the article and explain the subtitle being dropped there and in the Pre-production section. It really shouldn't be confusing. We're not going to retcon what it was titled for most of production. Trailblazer101 (talk) 16:22, 4 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
We also don't use Superman: Legacy before that title was announced, so anyone reading through the production section will get to the part where that title was announced and start seeing it used to refer to the film, and then they will get to the part where the new title was announced and started seeing that used to refer to the film. It should only be confusing for someone who doesn't read the lead and just jumps to random parts of the page, and we can't help if someone chooses to do that. - adamstom97 (talk) 17:03, 4 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
