Untitled[edit]

Calling it a collection of military science fiction stories when it's a collection built around "alternatives to war" seems a little disingenuous, no? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 195.212.29.91 (talk) 12:38, 30 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Selections deserving explication[edit]

OK, everyone knows what an introduction is, and everyone has pretty much the same expectation for what an SF short story is (tho there's no reason to throw away any brief commentary or description that someone wants to offer). In contrast, two items are cryptic enuf to deserve explication if at all possible:

  • "By the Numbers", an essay by Isaac Asimov -- The subject matter of an essay by Asimov is likely enuf to be of interest to be worthy of description.
  • "To Howard Hughes: A Modest Proposal" by Joe Haldeman -- Suggests it might be a letter; probably deserves either a statement of the "proposal", or (at least) a hint of what relationship it has to Jonathan Swift's "A Modest Proposal".
