This article needs more and better references. There also needs to be more factual information about Knight's record.

I am trying to add better and referenced info about Knight. He was listed in a "category" as a US Army officer. I have been unable to find any reference that lists him as an officer, so I took that category out for the time being. I have found references, like his own Linked In and a Veterans newsletter listing him as having been a "track systems mechanic" in Friedberg. Anyone able to find more references on hi U.S. Army service? SoCalBrat (talk) 21:52, 29 January 2016 (UTC)

Knight served in the US Army as referenced here and here but I cannot find anything confirming he served as an officer. Meatsgains (talk) 03:14, 12 March 2016 (UTC)

I took out the category that listed Knight as an officer, but is there a category that simply lists veterans or military service without referencing their rank? If so, that category should be added. SoCalBrat (talk) 19:31, 7 April 2016 (UTC)

POV issues

I'm sure that in an election year, it's hard to keep articles on politicians from having a POV. But major edits ought to be discussed on the talk page first. Relevant, appropriately sourced information shouldn't be deleted without a discussion. We also need info on Knight's positions of interest to all parties: national security, economy, health care (including abortion) deficit, foreign affairs, and immigration. Please read the information below about civility. If you had read the full article, you would see that the summary matched it. Knight wasn't at the gas leak for two months. the press noticed. Constituents complained. Opponents attacked. Knight does not dispute the fact that he didn't show up until January at the site. The facts are facts. SoCalBrat Looks like Meatsgains (talk) is taking out anything negative. That's not balance. And another editor (User:Champaign Supernova) who made 47 sugar-coating revisions to this article wanted deletion of another candidate's Wikipedia article. We need to make sure this article demonstrates factual information about Knight whether some people view it as positive or negative. I know some people who think the protester who kept touching Knight was a jerk who should have known a guy who's been a police officer and the U.S. military would deck him. Other people think a congressman should be more restrained. Regardless, that kind of well-covered info needs to be included. However, I think your list above represents only national issues, while developments specific to California, like the Aliso Creek gas leak, need better coverage in this article as well. I think that the Wikipedia article on Darrell Issa provides a good model, listing his views and voting record on many of the issues you mentioned.KentSteelman (talk) 04:43, 2 April 2016 (UTC)

SoCalBrat I've been looking at other wikipedia articles about California Reps in Congress and another one that's done well besides Darrell Issa is Brad Sherman. Since Issa is a Republican and Sherman is a Democrat, the highlighted issues would cover both parties pretty well.KentSteelman (talk) 08:00, 2 April 2016 (UTC)

A better picture

The photo attached to this article looks like an official picture, but in it, it looks as if Knight's face is much longer than other pics I've seen of him. Can anyone tell if it got "stretched out" somehow by mistake? SoCalBrat (talk) 19:25, 7 April 2016 (UTC)

Opeds are not reliable sources

This edit added the following text to the article: "Knight is against abortion under all circumstances, even in the case of rape or where the mother's life is at stake. He has voted against legislation guaranteeing women equal pay for equal work." The given source is an opinion editorial in a local newspaper. This citation does not meet our WP:RS criteria. Please see WP:NEWSORG, which states: "Editorial commentary, analysis and opinion pieces, whether written by the editors of the publication (editorials) or outside authors (op-eds) are reliable primary sources for statements attributed to that editor or author, but are rarely reliable for statements of fact." Similarly, this edit also introduced a statement of fact sourced only to an opinion editorial. Again, opeds are not reliable sources in this context. If we are to include information about Knight's activities/policies/beliefs, etc., we need to have reliable citations to verify the information. Agreed - the op-ed KentSteelman provided to support the content he is attempting to add is not reliable. Also, if the content is going to be restored with a RS verifying the information, it needs to be written from a neutral point of view. Keep off page until an RS can be found. Campaign video's background man's background

Hi @Snooganssnoogans:, someone's bad-hand sock reverted me so I'd rather ask you about that here. In my opinion it sounds extremely trivial and recentist to have a paragraph on a campaign video background man's backround. Fair enough, the LA Times made an article about it (although I can't open it because they block European IPs), but that's not much and not really a controversy unless Steve Knight or his campaign knew about the man's views (unless they are presumed to vet everyone appearing in the videos). Besides, the title "Veteran featured in GOP congressman's midterm election ad posted racist rants and violent threats on Facebook" makes it sound like the controversy was about the veteran's comments, not Steve Knight, as in the paper wanted to "out" this man.
