Are these statistics trustworthy?[edit]

Hello friends. What are reliable sources saying about how trustworthy China's COVID statistics are? If these statistics are accurate, China has one of the biggest populations, and was the origin of the virus, yet somehow has one of the lowest COVID total deaths. If they're being dishonest, I'd be interested in the details of their number fudging. If they're being honest, I'd be interested in hearing about what health practices (quarantines, testing, contact tracing, etc.) they used to achieve such low numbers. In addition to answering here, I would suggest adding a lead to this article discussing these interesting issues, and excerpting it in the COVID-19 pandemic in Mainland China article. –Novem Linguae (talk) 23:59, 27 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The response has involved extensive testing, mask wearing, temperature checks, ventilation, contact tracing, quarantines, isolation of infected people, and heavy restrictions in response to local outbreaks. I agree that the main article needs more information about these strategies. Around March of last year there was speculation about "number fudging" in the media, but now these strategies are generally considered to have been successful.[1][2][3] It's worth noting that asymptomatic cases are reported separately. You might also be interested in reading about the responses in Taiwan, Australia, New Zealand, and Singapore, which have also been very successful in controlling the virus. —Mx.
