"Possibly the best thing about St. George's is the house system?" Please... this is supposed to be an encyclopedia, not a brochure. Joeyconnick 06:48, August 8, 2005 (UTC)

Four of our children have attended St George's and we think that one of the best things about the school IS the house system. Stevesullivan 09:25, 18 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I wonder at the veracity of the comments about J Hollingsworth. Stevesullivan 09:25, 18 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Me too, and I've removed it. If someone can verify who this actually is with some reference, it can return. Potkettle 14:42, 24 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Seal and image[edit]

Hi, I am not an Old Georgian but I found the seal impression, worked out what it was and thought I should add it. It varies slightly from the current badge. From this old one it looks as if the motto is just 'Levavi Oculos' and the lower part is simply 'Sigillum Scholae Georgianae' (which means) 'Seal of the Georgian School'. Levavi oculos means 'I have lifted up mine eyes' (past tense) instead of 'I will lift up mine eyes' as in the psalm. The difference is seemingly intentional, and I suppose it means something like 'I have raised my sights.' On the seal St George is shown on the left in the guise of a Roman soldier, with the dead dragon at his feet: the upper right quarter shows three beacon hills with fires on top, presumably a reference to the foundation in Keswick. Not sure what 'skidda' means but 'Nutrix' means the (female) nurse or one who nourished it, i.e. the founding or original house: the bottom right quarter shows a bell, a dolphin, and a tree with a bird in it, and I have no ideas what these mean. The dedication panel inside the book is signed by Cecil Grant and by E Lyttelton, School Chairman, and the book was awarded to N.L. Williams for music in form IV.2 in July 1932. Hope it's of some interest, Dr Steven Plunkett 23:02, 18 September 2007 (UTC) and i love school —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.69.38.239 (talk) 16:38, 23 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

This article keeps swinging between those advertising the school and those vandalising the site.[edit]

Jeez, people - it seems everyone who edits this article is either trying to big-up the school with clearly biased statements, or just wants to sabotage it. As far as I can tell from the edit history, I'm the only one who seems interested in keeping it from a NPOV. Maybe it's because I went to the school but didn't like it that somehow keeps my additions balanced, or maybe it's because I'm the only one not stupid enough to use Wikipedia as neither a brochure nor a playground.--Willbxtn (talk) 18:42, 21 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I feel your pain... time to clean this article up then. I did go to St Georges and I liked it, but I do know how to use wikipedia. Megodbike (talk) 10:26, 25 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Conflict of interest[edit]

The article is stuffed with promotional trumpery sourced to their own website, it is entirely unacceptable, and needs to be cleaned up, the conflicted editor User:JBiggboiii69 has reverted my changes, I suggest they cease editing the article directly and suggest any changes here on the talk page. Theroadislong (talk) 14:23, 29 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

15 of the 28 references are to the school's website, Wikipedia has no interest in what they say about themselves ONLY what reliable independent sources have reported. The tone is also entirely inappropriate and reads more like a prospectus. Theroadislong (talk) 14:33, 29 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Edit Request[edit]

Following the repeated removal (by Kleuske:) of some citations that I added following a previous admin's (Velella:) removal, I wish to request that the following is re-added to the 'Old Georgians' Section.

|-

|Lennox Berkeley

| British composer of French influence, moving towards serialism in later life. [1]

|-

|Donald Coxeter | One of the great geometers of the 20th century. [2]

|-

I do not understand why Kleuske removed these in the first place, as they were correctly citated!

Done Both Coxeter and Berkeley are well sourced and notable. Coxeter has been on this page for many year. --Salix alba (talk): 14:21, 30 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Request to re-assess[edit]

I picked up this request- and it is correctly assessed. The problem is not with the length or quality of the writing but the amount of WP:PUFFERY. While referencing facts from school controlled sources may be unavoidable, referencing Points of View requires solid seconadary sources. This is written as a prospectus and suffers from WP:UNDUE. The first question I had was why is there boarding provision? The second question that I want to answer to judge the quality of the education is what languages are studied in Key Stage 3, how many languages can a student study at KS4. What about Progress 8. Spending time formatting the alumni into a table is a glorious waste of effort. Saying this has world beating results is also WP:OR . checkY Done ClemRutter (talk) 15:29, 20 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I did quite a bit of rewriting the article since you wrote this. Much was found to be copyvio from the school website. Hopefully all the puffery has gone. If there is still some could you highlight it. Hopefully the history addresses the questions of why there are borders. --Salix alba (talk): 19:19, 4 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I' ve spent the day picking up the undocumented fallout from a destubathon blitz on Norfolk school done in July and early Augus, and St George's was causght in the detritus, so I wrote the comment in July and it remained unposted. There is really a lot of well written primary source material here and with Ofsted endorsing it, it should be possible to work up GA out of this. There are a few unusually points to illustrate. The first elephant in the room is the boarding provision at 13.5 K a year, in a statefunded school.See List of state boarding schools in EnglandI have word a two stateschools that had boarding wings, in Manchester it was funded by the City to givesocial service some capacity and used by the school to give each child a weeks communal sleep over which we saw as important. In London, the school had provision for Army families, so an overseas posting didn't disrupt the childs exam year. So in St Georges, is it really non selective when there is a paywall of 13K, how does this impact on the day kids.-
Sheringham High School is still a start but it demonstrates how you can write about Curriculum. In contrast St Georges is just bragging. The house system- what does it do? Pastoral? sports? Housekeeping> How do boarders and dayboys fit into all the aspects of the houses. I have fixed parts of the infobox. Does that give you a few clues.
