Wide screen?[edit]

"The portrait-style display may have contributed to the eVilla's poor performance. It was a widescreen display mounted sideways"

I'm pretty sure the screen was a 15" flat Trinitron with the usual 4:3 width/height proportions, i.e. not widescreen. Sony had a surplus of 15" CRT's because everyone was buying 17" CRT's at the time, so they figured they would do something useful with them. The bulkiness of the CRT as compared to other internet appliances (such as the Compaq -- I forgot its name but it had an LCD screen) as well as the possibility that Sony knew that Be Inc. was in trouble, are more likely to be the major causes of the early demise of the eVilla (not to mention the general notion that the idea of web appliances wasn't catching on). 68.14.227.113 19:49, 28 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
