Proposed edits to Slonim page[edit]

Hello, добры дзень,

I would like to propose several edits to the Slonim page, listed below:

- Proposed deletion of this sentence:

Some 19th century European historians also tried to connect the name 'Slonim' to the root word 'slon,' which means 'elephant' in Polish, Russian and Belarusian. However, this hypothesis has never been taken seriously.[citation needed]

Reasoning: Not only is this sentence lacking a citation and has been for some time, what is the goal of stating a hypothesis that has never been taken seriously? It only serves to muddy the waters because indeed, Slonim has nothing to do with 'elephant'.

- Need to update the official website address:

The current website listed in the infobox is no longer functional: http://www.slonim.grodno-region.by/en/ Does anyone know an updated address for the official website? I've found this: http://slonim.by/ but it's not much better and does not appear to be official.

- There is a question about the official founding date of the town:

The infobox lists 1252 as the founding date of the town. However, this is an official date set in order to celebrate a 750-anniversary early in the 2000s. This source here references the anniversary, but even lists 1036 as the correct original founding date: http://myslonim.narod.ru/historengl.htm Other sources confirm this date as well: http://www.minsktourist.com/offer/excursions/description/slonim.html There is (was?) even a sign outside of Slonim proclaiming 1036 as the official founding year. I am still looking for a photo of this sign.

What do you think about updating 1252 to 1036?

Thank you. Vonnegutodin (talk) — Preceding undated comment added 16:23, 10 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
