Neutral statement of the dispute[edit]

What should be the scope of the material linked on this disambiguation page? DavidLeighEllis (talk) 04:34, 11 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • The dab page should include the term "the shit": I have added a Wiktionary link for both "shit" and "the shit" (strange that this was missing from this page, as there is a massive entry there for "shit", but there is also an entry for "the shit"), added words to define the expanded scope, and added an album and a song each called "The Shit". The song had an existing redirect but was not listed on the existing dab page at The Shit. That dab page (in this version before I turned it into a redirect) held two other entries which were dictionary definitions, not appropriate dab page entries. As for other argued points: WP:MOSDAB is clear, and the content at the moment seems appropriate, with the useful addition of "in title" to catch many other articles with the word "shit" in their titles. • Include the following:
  • Exclude any surnames or unrelated words that happen to contain the letter sequence s h i t in it (e.g., Harshit Tomar or Dikshit). EvergreenFir (talk) Please {{re}} 18:27, 11 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Dab pages should not include partial title matches unless there are clear indications documented in the article that the subject I'd referenced as simply shit. For all the unambiguous PTMs there is {{look from}} and {{in title}}. This is standard per WP:MOSDAB.olderwiser`
  • We already have guidelines about this. See WP:DAB and MOS:DAB. Entries like "Shit Creek Review" never (and entries like "Harshit Tomar" never, ever, ever) go in the disambiguation entries, unless the entry is question is often known solely as "Shit" for short and this fact is reliably sourceable). Entries like "Shit Creek Review" and "Chickenshit" (but still absolutely not someone's name that coincidentally includes this character string) go in the ==See also== section, when there are only a few of them. Here, there are numerous topics with that word in their titles, so use special links instead, namely the [[Special:Prefixindex/shit]]and [[Special:Search/intitle:shit]] in that section already. The disambiguation entries should only contain:
    • Entries named "Shit" (often with a parenthetical or comma-delimited disambiguator after the word)
    • Minor syntactic variations ("a shit", "the shit", and "shits" if there's not plural DAB page for it and "shitting", if we had such articles)
    • Things commonly abbreviated or nicknamed "Shit" (there don't seem to be any, though I can think of some to add
    • Types of shit (only in theory, these would really be at articles like manure, guano, etc.)
    • And things spelled as modifications of "shit" (e.g. "SHIT", "sh!t", or "5h1t") which may be mistaken for it and sometimes spelled simply as "shit".
Pages relating to sometimes synonymous terms (depends on context) like Crap, Horseshit, Feces, Manure, etc., belong in the ==See also== section in a case like this, because the main article Shit encompasses both the literal meaning the vernacular, metaphoric ones.

The current version as of my writing is done correctly.

There is no novel issue here for this RfC to discuss. Just follow the guidelines like the other DAB pages do. In fact, this RfC should be subjected to speedy close since there is no consensus question to address.  — SMcCandlish ¢ ≽ʌⱷ҅ʌ≼  15:36, 14 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • This RfC should be closed before it wastes anyone else's time. The question as stated is far too broad for anyone to answer, and the "neutral statement of the dispute" doesn't actually state any dispute. And I suspect User:SMcCandlish is correct in that whatever dispute there may be would dissolve when the editors involved read existing guidelines. Terribly weak cocaine[edit]

Is there the word "shit" for "terribly weak cocaine"? Are you sure? Qwertyxp2000 (talk | contribs) 07:27, 11 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Sounds like original research or extremely context-sensitive and probably localized slang for which we're unlikely to have a reliable source, and which is unlikely to be encyclopedically relevant. "Shit" in the drug-using context means simply "drugs". I'm thus inspired to create the next thread.  — SMcCandlish ¢ ≽ʌⱷ҅ʌ≼  15:49, 14 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I think that would be "shit shit": the first meaning "not very good" and the second meaning "drugs". All the best: Rich Farmbrough, 13:07, 19 August 2015 (UTC).[reply]

Needs one or more but not a lot of additional entries[edit]

"Shit" is (and has been for at least three generations) recreational-drug-culture slang for one's drugs. There are other cases where we have articles already on the topics that the term is variously used for, so it may be helpful to readers to add to the DAB page those that have a lot of current (or historical but widely published) currency, so people don't have to read the entire Shit article to figure out what some writer meant when one of her characters "used up all his shit last night", or whatever. Any slang dictionary will provide a long list of meanings of this term, but we should not include a WP:LAUNDRYLIST of WP:TRIVIA and WP:DICDEFs. E.g., we do not need any entries like "* Shit, colloquialism for calm, as in "she totally lost her shit when she heard the news.", or "* Shit, colloquialism for concern, as in "I couldn't give a shit.", or "* Shit, colloquialism for possessions, as in "Don't mess with my shit." If it's a feature of everyday vernacular English usage, we have no need for an entry for it here, only for slang/jargon terms that are sourceable as a consistent, persistent, and pervasive, which pertain to a notable topic for which we have an article already, and which some readers are genuinely likely to be looking for, as is the case with the recreational/illegal drug slang usage.  — SMcCandlish ¢ ≽ʌⱷ҅ʌ≼  15:49, 14 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The Wiktionary link should cover much of this. All the best: Rich Farmbrough, 13:08, 19 August 2015 (UTC).[reply]

Link to Scheiße - edit request[edit]

Currently the Lady Gaga song Scheiße is linked as an example of this term, despite it technically not being an example of this term. It'd make more sense if the See Also section instead linked to Scheiße (disambiguation), which both links to the song and links back to this disambiguation page.

On the topic of songs with this exact name, I believe there exists a song by C418 on the album A Cobblers Tee Thug, however as the album doesn't have an article of its own I'm not sure if it'd notable enough; please do respond with whether it qualifies for an entry or not. - 2A02:C7E:178F:5900:85DE:BE8E:C23E:D98D (talk) 16:08, 23 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
