Peer review?[edit]

Has sexual identity therapy been the subject of peer review in a mainstream academic journal? I couldn't find any such peer review myself, but don't want to jump to conclusions. Fireplace (talk) 15:39, 26 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Are you asking if there was a paper written on Sexual Identity Therapy that was published in a mainstream academic journal? I don't think so. The therapy was just presented last year at the American Psychological Association convention in San Francisco. Usually, in order to write a paper, you need some results. This therapy is still in its initial stages, and all we have to go on is what was presented at the convention, the endorsements of professional peers, and of course, what mainstream newspapers have said about it. I do know they are planning to revise it this year.Joshuajohanson (talk) 04:55, 27 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Conversion therapy[edit]

The conversion therapy category was recently added to this article by User:Matisse. I think this is probably a mistake. The article states that, 'The creators state that their recommendations "are not sexual reorientation therapy protocols in disguise,"[1] but that they "help clients pursue lives they value." They say clients "have high levels of satisfaction with this approach"'. It seems from this that sexual identity therapy isn't intended by its creators to be a kind of conversion therapy. The article that this statement is quoted from seems clear that sexual identity is supposed to have different objectives from conversion therapy and can, for example, regard the development of a gay identity as a positive outcome. So without reliable sources showing that its creators are wrong and that it actually is conversion therapy, I think it is wrong to add this category. They can say whatever they'd like. Since it was invented by a group of conservative evangelicals, it was likely added because many may see this as a back door approach to Conversion Therapy. Thus being able to contrast and compare the two is important to an honest discussion. Assuming it's not "Conversion Therapy by Another Name" the link should be there to help contrast the two. Criticisms?[edit]

I'm certain it's been criticized by someone - given its origins, from those (like me) who view the basic cause of the conflict as being the religion, not the sexuality, for instance. Allens (talk | contribs) 19:14, 20 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
