I'm removing Swingfire as an example as there is uncertainty as to whether it's a true example of SACLOS, please see Talk:Swingfire. Riddley 15:58, 17 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I should point out that laser beam riding missiles do not "home in" on an illuminated target. As the name suggests, they ride the guiding laser beam (or in the case of STARSTREAK, the two laser beams) using detectors that face back to the guiding unit not forwards to the target. As long as that laser beam is tracking the target they should hit!

The same goes for radar beam riding missiles. The article is wrong as posted because it mixes up beam riding with semi-active homing.

I wanted to write the same thing. This article is misleading as it doesn't differentiate between the beam riding method in which the missile creates its own guidance commands based on the beam location, and the SACLOS in which the commands are transmitted from the ground to the missile. --61.8.202.103 (talk) 05:58, 8 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I'm removing TOW missile from examples because it's Optically-tracked, wire-guided from the operator and not guided by the saclos system (JeffBengtson (talk) 05:33, 14 December 2010 (UTC))[reply]

Since there is no definition of generations, the mention is removed. /BP 81.225.216.15 (talk) 21:11, 27 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Beam Riding is not SACLOS[edit]

As part of my ATGM overhaul, this page will be getting significantly modified to fit within modern definitions and sourced materials, as well as being more properly linked to other related ideas. One part of this includes the removal of Beam Riding missiles from this article, as Beam Riding missiles are not Command Guidance or Command Line of Sight missiles (or any examples that include Command Guidance would fall under a hybrid definition). If anyone has any comments on this upcoming change, please let me know, and feel free to add any additional sources or information you find on the matter.Ironarcher13 (talk) 01:07, 14 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

So if they are not a type of SACLOS then what are they? As I understand it wire guided and beam riding are the very definition of SACLOS. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 06:43, 14 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
